This is the first freestyle-to-song I made and so the only thing I really focused on was the lyrics and making sure the flow was someone decent. As a result the production quality is terrible and the volume's a little off but I'm still proud of it. Only uphill from here.

1. Dead to Me

So this is a first for me, I found a beat, recorded a freestyle (if you can even call it that), and wrote and recorded this song in one whole sitting which is a first for me. For this one I really felt the vibe of the beat and went with it with no planning, and it turned out to be an amazing song about this past summer and really captured the vibe I think. Again, not really focused on production and it kind of has a lo-fi feel to it.

2. Summer 2017

Hi, I'm misfit wavy, and I'm terrible at rapping. But, I'm OK with that and I'm learning how to get better. The "misfit wavy" project, as I'm calling it, is a challenge I've given myself to help practice my rap skills. Here's how it works:

Once a week (at minimum) I will post a freestyle I have recorded. The freestyle will be exactly that, a freestyle, with no prewritten or predetermined lyrics or bars. I will, however, have a general direction I wanna take it as well as a few rhymes in mind or sounds that I want to use. Then I'll rap as long as I can on the beat no matter how bad it is. Using that recording I will make a song to the same beat based off of the freestyle and hopefully it'll be slightly less bad.

Why am I posting these to soundcloud where everyone can see? Exactly for that reason: everyone can see. I'm certainly no rap god and skills like that don't just appear overnight. In fact, the only real applicable skill I have here is my ability to write. I know I need to work on my other skills: my rhythm, flow, songwriting, melody, mixing, producing, etc. However, I'm lazy and often have trouble motivating myself. Posting my work publicly can help me be accountable towards myself and stay on track. If everyone else can look up and see if I'm slacking then I have more motivation to keep going and keep putting in the work to improve myself. Every month I will compile the complete songs into a sort of mixtape for the month for easy listening (may not be so easy on the ears at first though).

If you're reading this, please leave a comment, send me an email, or if you know me, talk to me in person and just fucking rip me apart. Anything about my voice, lyrics, rhythm, flow, mixing, songwriting, ANYTHING. As much criticism as possible. It is all welcome as other people's insight may be the best way to improve myself.

I will also be recording full-fledged rap songs along the way, I hope to drop a mixtape of 5-10 songs by the end of 2017, stay tuned :)
