We continue our six week run of weekly SORRYMIXs with an absolute barnstormer set from "singer, seamstress, dj, and party girl" Maenad (@alana_maenad) recorded live from 7am to 10am at @tossdbk in Brooklyn back in July. 

I met Alana on the internet back when she was living in Pittsburgh. We bonded early over Jimmy Buffett, house history, and big vocal dance tracks. She's since relocated to New York City and I've really enjoyed getting to know her and her boyfriend Gabriel ever since. We did a super fun episode of BOYDZONE together on @8-ballradio but I had somehow never seen her DJ for a crowd until this set that just destroyed me it was so good 😊

tossd is a really killer new-ish DIY party run by Will Jack (@willjackthedj) and Perfect Health (@perfecthealth) that has been putting together some super sweet and intentional local focused lineups lately that are a real treat. I was thoroughly impressed by the scope and attention to detail of their party and absolutely blown away by Alana's joyous butt movin powerhouse of a set, paired with great sound, wicked lighting by pal @violet_flux, and a much appreciated padded dancefloor. Many thanks to Will and Gio for being down to let us host this recording as well - highly encourage supporting tossd's future parties (got one on 9.28 with a sick lineup! https://ra.co/events/2001450).

DJ GIRL is the baddest bitch in techno bass, serving hard techno and electro beats since 2014. DJ Girl was born in Metro Detroit and initially started her musical career as tchan, creating Detroit-centric bass music with a cartoonish and experimental edge. Over the course of several years, she received love from the underground from her 3 tchan releases, after which she started giving the midwest techno experience to many cities in the US and Canada.

In 2018, she started her own label, Eat Dis, which became a collective over the course of the pandemic and has since dropped over 24 releases and connected many artists from different disciplines and regions. In 2021, she released SLSK TRAX on Planet Euphorique, which has become an underground classic. Currently, she's located in Austin, TX, and is always on the move and ready to rip it up anywhere she goes.

Just Another Bitch (@justanothrbitch), Jab/Jabril if we’re doing gov names, only has a few requirements to play a track – it has to be cunt, Black, queer, and/or fem (bonus points if it’s all of the above). Their musical journey has evolved in tandem with their full embrace of all those aforementioned identities, and this set embodies that growth. It’s a genre-bending moment (grounded in techno ofc)  – a celebration of breaking free from the boxes we’ve been told to shrink into and the ensuing love, joy, and fear that comes with it.
