The tragic  wildfires in Patagonia Argentina at the beginning of march 2021, left irreparable damage: thousands of hectares of forest were burned, wild animals were calcined, lots of people were seriously injured, some of them died and many also lost their homes, completely burned by the  fire.

The outbreaks of the fires appear to have been intentional.

Setting fire to a mountain, a forest, a jungle, responds to a level of impunity to which we do not want to get used to, because that can only means hastening our end, but at the same time it confronts us with the impunity that is a daily part of our lives.

We hope that what follows us does not perpetuate this self-destructive logic that we praise so much.

Project Salomé  is a complex reworking of the 1st-century story of Salomé from the perspective of the victim Salomé herself.

Conceived and directed by SIngapore director Ong Keng Sen, the play splits itself into three components.
One - Janice Koh playing several roles in Oscar Wilde’s  1891 play including Salomé, her stepfather Herod, her mother Herodias and the Syrian captain,
Two - a film screened on stage involving Ong’s encounter with Michael(a) Daoud, a queer performance artist who fled Syria and now lives in Berlin.
Three - Koh also playing a professional tennis player who has an affair with a married politician in a contemporary tale that unfolds on Instagram(@thesalomecomplex) weeks before the show ran, only finding resolution in the last moments of the performance.

Throughout runs the fourth element. A six channel score, composed and performed live by Kaffe Matthews seated in the middle of the audience. HERE you can hear a stereo extract of Scene 1/ the Prologue.

Commissioned by Singapore International Arts festival 2022, this extraordinary collaboration performed at the Victoria Theatre, Singapore 24-26.5.22 to thrilled audiences.
