Kicking off the New Year and the Missed Connection Mix Series is Peruvian born, CDMX based Alexandra Choi. Self proclaimed "hard bass slut," Alexandra is a hard techno enthusiast; this bouncy mix draws from different influences only to give a taste of what her library contains.

This week on Missed Connections we take you to the depths of the Mojave Desert. Washington born, LA-based @pan_p shares with us a palette of all things PSY: trance, progressive, breaks & DnB. pan’s gravitation towards psychedelic dance music started in the outback, attending off-the-grid parties known as ‘Bush Doofs’ in Australia. Channeling this chaotic & melodic energy, pan and his friends over at @inquiry-records continue being at the forefront of fostering intentional dance communities in California and beyond.

Currently living in Seattle and working in Los Angeles and Seoul, @sookiekwak is a multidisciplinary artist interested in working with photo/images, sound, video, drawing/painting, tattoo, and writing. This dancy mix is a 2 hour soak into sookie’s personal style, perfect for waking you back up at the afterhours.

@mannnuuu is one fourth of the Stockholm (Sweden) based Sun Citadel Dance Club collective, (@sun-citadel) which regularly organizes parties in and around the city - from raves in the forest to events in more established venues. His dance floor sets are usually centered around house and disco in various forms, but this mix is more oriented towards listening - going from beatless melodies, through dubby downtempo, to carnivalesque broken beats.

Hyeonje @hyeonje-fka-hommegranate (they/them) is a nonbinary artist creating, loving, and living in diaspora. They use their DJing as a means of storytelling, play, ancestor worship, and somatoemotional connection with fellow human beings. Hyeonje's 6 minute piano piece in the midst of a 1.5 hour dance-centric set embodies the spirit of Missed Connections Radio; intention, spontaneity and exploration.

We were on the same megabus from Toronto to Montreal. It was Friday, October 31st and everyone was clearly costumed for the Hallowe'en parties they'd be attending when we arrived. You were a slutty Bela Lugosi as Nosferatu and I was a pregnant Sharon Tate in Rosemary's Baby. We both chanced a dash to the Timmie's at the Kingston rest stop. I got a green fog au lait and you got a jack 'o' lantern sprinkles donut. We caught each other's eye while giggling and screaming "WAIT!" as the bus began pulling out before we boarded. The driver chastised us when we got on and we shared a mischievous school-girlish look before taking our respective seats. I thought you looked cute in all that corpse paint and eyeliner.

“You were sitting three rows down from me. You were wearing all black: cap, sweater, and sneakers. An inconspicuous look… to blend in, to hide, to be alone? The attempt of being unnoticed seemed severe to the point where you stood out amongst the crowd. I watched the back of your head bobbing side to side, up and down, with headphones softly hidden underneath the waves of your hair. As the lights went down, you pulled out your headphones and relaxed into your seat with both arms up on their rests.
Maybe I imagined it, maybe I dreamt it, but every time there was music our bodies shifted in unison. Like a dance, we were reacting to the sounds, the movements, the stories presented to us. I couldn’t help but watch you in my periphery, wondering how you would respond. We both flinched. Did you just feel the same? I watched you caress your cheek. I watched you hold your hand. I watched you clench your fists.  
At the film's end the whole theatre was dark. Silence. The lights went up, and just like that, you were gone.”


EEJUNGMI is the musical project of Katie Lee, a creator in both architecture and music. Katie approaches her work with an interdisciplinary understanding of sound and space to communicate her emotional explorations. Her mixes are an important extension and footnote to her own music. This mix features different contexts in which music is played within film, and as much as possible, outside of its score.

Hailing from Bristol (UK), Welsh-born DJ @anina has been a firm fixture at some of the city's most prominent club nights of recent years (Timedance, Livity Sound, Idle Hands, Young Echo - to name a few).

Her Missed Connections mix was recorded with the twilight hours in mind, running at a slower pace and exploring themes of wonder, fantasy & obsession.

Expect low-end, tripped out atmospherics with a nod to the autonomic sound.

Hunter Starkings (@hunterstarkingsla) delivers a touching and emotional mix, just as we shake the last bits of winter off and get excited for the summer.  

"Before I really ever mixed for an actual dancefloor, I loved making mixes for myself to listen to at home or in the car. This is an old mix I recorded in spring of 2021, inspired by watching the landscapes around me wake up after a particularly cold and gloomy winter. I had just been through a tough breakup, and the winter was bringing me down even more. As spring began to revive the land, and flowers, bees, and mushrooms decorated the increasingly green landscape, I felt like I too, was blooming, and I felt excited about life for the first time in a year. This mix tried to capture that, and I still listen to it when I want to remember that feeling."

"For my performance at the Basscoast Slowtempo stage in 2023 I explored the theme 'Ancient Rituals'; for thousands of years humans have gathered around fires, banged drums and ascended to higher states of consciousness, with music festivals becoming one modern day interpretation of these ancient rituals.  I chose a selection of ambient/experimental/downtempo sounds specifically to soundtrack anyone who was on a psychedelic journey at the time as they conducted their own ancient rituals. I don't usually release live recordings but this one turned out to be very special despite the live looseness, bonus points if you can hear where I stopped the wrong CDJ."

A. It's a flow between downtempo and liquid breakbeat music that has enraptured me for years and this is a bit of an ode to some of my early influences alongside a fair amount of newer music from my peers and inspirations.

Precious sonic souvenir from my debut explorations in China during the Music Magic World Tour earlier in the spring. Recorded live on a rainy sunday night at the best club in Shenzhen. I got scammed bad before my previous gig in Shanghai and I was trapped in the airport for 5 hours due to weather prior to arrival in Shenzhen. So I had to reach deep spiritually (no weed too smh) to position myself to deliver the vibes to the people regardless. Big proud with the outcome and I hope this 2hr bouquet makes your day better.
