Misstress Barbara is back on her record label Iturnem Music with a timeless techno EP that features three of her hard-hitting tracks.

Hailing from Italy, but currently living in Canada, Misstress Barbara is an iconic techno artist, and one of the first female superstar DJs. In the late ‘90s and early ‘00s she was consistantly voted inside DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs, and decades later Misstress Barbara still plays headline shows all over the world.

Iturnem Music is her classic record label that Misstress Barbara recently reinvigorated to become the main outlet for her own productions, but she has also released music via other prestigious outlets ranging from Carl Cox’s Intec to Christian Smith’s Tronic.

She chose her DJ name due to being a perfectionist who is constantly looking to improve and refine herself. Hence the combination of “Miss” and “stress” used to create a satirical surname which reflects the fact she is always stressing about her music.

“Your Eyes On Me” blends fast-paced percussion and a modulating lead synth with seductive vocals to create a hypnotic track with vigorous energy.

Pan-Pot proudly present the third and final part of the FORTE Remixes on their imprint Second State Audio, featuring reinterpretations by Planetary Assault Systems and Obscure Shape that showcase an innovative and mind-twisting approach to the German duo’s critically acclaimed singles from 2023.

The EP kicks off with Obscure Shape’s ‘CORE (Peak Remix)’, a tribal groovy 90’s inspired techno workout. The deep chord sequence from the original track forms the melodic theme, creating a colorful, epic and emotional atmosphere. With a big bassline supporting the groove, this track is a perfect closer for a sunset set, or to infuse some warmth, color, and energy into the dancefloor. Following this is Planetary Assault Systems’ ‘ARC (Rumble Jungle Remix)’, a seven-minute evolving trip into the sonic world of the genius of Luke Slater. This remix delivers an incredible reinterpretation with a forward-pushing groove, rolling rhythms, a hypnotic sequence and the iconic vocal loop from the original Pan-Pot track. High energy, tension, excitement and class make this a timeless techno gem.

On the flip side, Obscure Shape returns with ‘CORE (Reduced Remix)’, characterized by its captivating rolling top drum groove, stomping kick and incisive bass sequence. A plucked lead evolves throughout the track, while the original vocal sample repeating "paralyzed" adds variation. The EP concludes with Planetary Assault Systems’ ‘ARC (Stomp Maker Remix)’, a harder alternative version of the remix featuring a stompy kick groove, saturated and distorted percussions, and an evolving hypnotic percussive lead. The engaging and intense drum pattern, along with the iconic vocal loop and a bleepy sequence, catapults listeners into a new dimension of sonic depth.

Established in the 90s, Misstress Barbara (word play between Miss and Stress) is a pioneering DJ/Producer and one of the first female superstar DJs who helped inspire future generations with her explosive Techno sets. Whilst headlining major festivals and events globally, there was a period in the ’00s when she was consistently voted inside of DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs.

Born in Italy, she moved to Canada at age 8. Curious and passionate by nature, she loves exploring new fields and reaching new goals. To name a few, she is a drummer, she has a glider and private pilot license, she graduated University in Communications/Cinema, she is a boat captain and sailing instructor, and she also launched her own bean-to-bar chocolate brand Barbon Chocolate, crafting everything by hand herself. A woman of many talents indeed.

But among all of her passions, music was always her main focus since the start of her remarkable career, which has earned her multiple accolades (2001 Best Montreal International Music Initiative Award / 2002 UK Underground Music Awards’ Best Breakthrough DJ / 2009 GAMIQ’s Best Electronic Album of the Year Awards and 2010 Canada’s JUNO Awards’ Best Dance Album of the Year nomination for “I’m No Human” / 2014 MTL Awards’ Best Montreal DJ, to name a few). Her extensive discography is found among the world’s best Techno labels, including her own, launched in 1999 under the name Relentless, which became Iturnem in 2003. Barbara Brown used to be her alter-ego used for her softer productions, but she now releases all her music under her main name, regardless of the style, as she did for her albums I’m No Human and Many Shades of Grey. This might confuse her most loyal techno fans, although they should rest assured that she will never stray away from her first true love: Techno.
