MistahMath - Glass Bottles

Originally realeased at WakefulState Records on the beattape "Bumps & Flips - Vol.1"

For this beattape I tried to play as many elements I could by myself.
From pianos, bass and pads to textures and foley sounds.
Most of my process is usually digging for samples and make beats that way,
but this time I wanted to take another path. 
The result felt to me as a chill stroll trough the heavens and planets in outer space.
Thats also why I named the beats after constellations, asteroids and stars.
So hop on the space shuttle and join me on this short but exciting orbit.

Asterope

This beat is actually an older production that I started creating a few years ago. It was left in a folder, but in some strange way I always came back to this particular beat. Maybe it was the ringing SP1200 sample. Or was it the filtered drums? I do not know. Anyways, I started working more on the production and the beat got a few more elements that complemented the other ones.
At the beginning of the summer of 2021, I was asked to join a collection of 29 other beatmakers that would result in a double vinyl. I ended up sending 2 beats and this beat was one of them. Since it didn’t get chosen and I couldn’t stop thinking that it deserved its own life, I therefore chose to release it.

The Railway
A Lo-Fi fragrant production reminiscent of the old era of hip hop. It gives a nice vibe and it's something that makes me think of railways. The warning sounds from a railway crossing when the barriers are lowered and you sit and wait in the car. Or to sit by a window on a gray cloudy autumn or winters day and dream away on your daily commute.

This month's release is a more soulful lofi tune. For me, it brings to mind spring and everything that comes to life again after being dormant all winter. Like a bud that bursts out into a living flower or a caterpillar that turns from its cocoon into a beautiful butterfly. Therefore, I thought that this musical piece could fit as May's release. Hence the name "Emerald" which is both May's birth stone but which also symbolizes rebirth and in short means "green". 🌱🪴🍀

This is my 5th single of 2022 and a part of my journey to release 1 instrumental single each month during 2022.

Emerald

A lazy summer day. Maybe you're on the beach by the ocean, maybe you're in a cabin in the woods or camping with your best friends. No matter what, summer is a special time of year. At least for me. So this beat I made in honor of summer. A slow tempo beat where sampled piano meets down pitched vocals. In a soundscape that moves in and around the lofi hip-hop spectrum.

I love being lazy! 
Its the simplest joy of human existence. If life is going well, you have food and necessities, whats there really to worry about? At least for now anyways. Just enjoy the moment.
A lazy day for me is sleeping in until noonish. Stay in bed for a few hours listening to music and day dreaming. Then go and spend time on the sofa the rest of the day surfing the internet, watching videos, listening to music, playing video games or whatever else. Yummy snacks included. Then dinner whenever I feel hungry. 
Basically its just a lot of sleeping, eating, and staying at home with nothing and no one to worry about. 
So this little jazzy, laid back lofi hiphop sound piece is in honor of those type of days. Enjoy :)

A year ago I started a project which meant that I would try to release an instrumental single every month for the rest of the year. It all started with the track "The Railway" which I released on 30th November 2021. Today, 28th November 2022 I release my 12th track "Abundance" and thus complete my goal.

I want to take the opportunity to thank everyone who supported me by listening, sharing and commenting on my releases. This is just the beginning of my journey and now I'm entering a new phase in my music making. I hope you will continue to support me and help me grow in the future.

It might go without saying, but these are stories from my cassette deck, an old dusty Yamaha K-09. The beats have a distinctive lofi hiphop character that sounds more like older stuff from years ago. Jazzy samples, some more famous than others in symbiosis with drunken drum beats wrapped in the classic cassette noise.
