waiting for it to light up the sky.
was it a thing you couldn't see until your eyes had adjusted?
a signal for perfect conditions. a cue to move in to position.
bodies were present. intentions were aimed.
only head and hands were elsewhere. feet were crossed. 
where were they now if not there? had they forgot to be lost in the present? 
we can't blame the dance of the moon for habits learned in the day time.
old practices dies hard. its hopeful to keep trying moves you've outgrown.

I had learned to see the light when the sun was out, so that nothing in the dark would surprise me.
while in the past I did the opposite. with hands and arms out, stretched,  I seemed the foolish optimist. 
love comes in more ways than we are taught how to expect it.
you laughed when I told you it was the language of the universe. 
that nothing would have reason to survive, exist or sustain without it. 
our darkest days were shaken off by dances under the moon.
and every potion we entertained advertised a promise of warmth, sunlight and days after.

As far as the eyes can see
Desire burns the land far and wide.
Who was I to ask for it all?
Who was I then to take it?
Before me were options and roads less traveled. Less thought of. 
All I did was turn my head and there I was.
With all this beside me
And all that remained. 
They say when you shed old skin, you shed the environment that it was casted in as well.
The tactiles and tactics of it change with it. 
The textures slip away for things with greater fiction. 
Goods signs to tell that you are alive and not just living.
You see the maze you were in in all of its simplicity.
Everybody can't go. And most will find their ways. 
But even from where you stand now, you can see its beauty and their steps in the evolution.
As painful as new branches are you can see how pivotal each twist and turn really was.
The veins leading to and from heart to head, to arms, to legs. 
We need each other to ascend within ourselves. Never by ourselves. 
We dance to the licks of the flames as its passion burns us to ashes.
As far as our eyes can see this is how it's always been. 
We rise anew and on a neighboring plane.
Shaking free of the remnants that would have us return. 
Holding our fortunes close and away from the burn. 
Jewels ever cherished and rightly earned. 
Standing stagnant only in nostalgia.
Every present moment takes us into the treasures of tomorrow.

Reflections are difficult, for a number of reasons. 
They deal with expressions on more than one front. 
Especially when it deals with passing moments. 
It's the showing of both sides of a coin, in a way. 
Or dealing with both exposure and a reveal. 
Unintentionally foreshadowing.
Not always sad, and not always subtle.
Usually unsettling, and usually hard to miss at first glance. 
Our minds want to smooth out the harsher parts after time passes. 
But there's always that blur that lingers after it hits the light.
