A bit ago, Sam (Brooda) and I were recording a really emotional rap song called "Love." We kept taking breaks, being like, "Mannnn, this song is kinda heavy. We should record something else too, something fun and light, something about, I don't know, breakfast." So, Sam rattled off a quick hook about his love for cheesy eggs and bacon. Corbin (BEZ) came through with a verse about a painful morning after, and Nathaniel (BGFT) dropped in with a quick outro about waffles. BAM!!!! Breakfast Club was born.

Tomorrow's my bday. I fuckin love birthdays. Culminating times. As a kinda-sorta gift to myself I dipped out a few weeks ago for 10 days at a Vipassana meditation retreat. 10 days of silence and meditating. It's crazy what goes through your mind. The thoughts you're trying not to think. First few days it was mostly song lyrics. Mostly the lyrics in this song. Focusssss.

When life gives you lemons, paint that shit gold. Whaaaaaa? Yeah, the title to Atmosphere's '08 album never made much sense to me either. Til I stopped thinking about it, and it became abundantly clear.

Hella sssssstoked on my new song, RECESS!!! The beat was crafted by my SoundCloud homeskillet Connor Button. The first verse was spat by Bainbridge Island's BGFT (AKA Nathaniel Buechler). And the second verse comes courtesy of Seattle's BEZ (AKA Corbin Lester). Most of the other noises were made by me.

Roughly a month ago the 3 of us got together at my little cabin studio, drank hella tea, ate lots of macaroni and cheese, and recorded our deep thoughts about Recess.

I've been working on this one for over two years. I wrote it in a single sitting, but keep re-recording the verses over and over and over. Never satisfied with the cadence, the vocal texture, the syncopation... And it's been an exhausting story to tell myself over and over and over. But, I'm ready.

Not that long ago, I lived in my car. After a few years of that grind, I kinda hit the "reset" button and moved in with my folks. Then I REALLY hit the "reset" button, and moved out to the woods and into a tent. Then I hit the "go" button, bought a tiny slice of delicious land and moved into a cabin.

Last night I watched a documentary called, "Best Worst Movie." It's about a fantastically bad 80's horror flick called, "Troll 2." Apparently, this movie is soooo bad that it's ACTUALLY good. One of those highly-watchable train wrecks. This was not the creator's intention. He considers it the next Casablanca. One of the main ingredients for Troll 2's "success" is that EVERYBODY in the flick took it's creation very, VERY seriously. It's this seriousness that makes it so unintentionally hilarious. Hmmmmmm. With that in mind, every time I listen to my new, "Stress Undressin" song, I fear I've tried a little TOO hard. I mean, there's not a single punch line in the whole thing... how un hip-hop of me. Perhaps this'll be my, "Best Worst Song." Heh heh (nervous laugh). Hope you enjoy.

Awhile back I dropped a Facebook post about the musical online community Soundcloud. I was like, "Sup, y'all. I've been uploading my music to this cool website thing. It's kind of a trip, though. It's called SoundCloud, and there's this vibrant community there. But, it's kind of a weird, hollow experience. You never actually share space with the people your collaborating with. It's always virtual. Your soul being shared in digital files, Skype conversations, and Faceboook threads... blah blah blah." Well, ironically, a couple of musicians I'd connected with ON Soundcloud commented on my Facebook post, and we started messaging, and found that we had a common vibe. I'd already heard both these cat's work. Dug it. And after a handful of messages (Well, roughly 150 messages between the 3 of us... We're like a bunch of 13 year old girls), we wrote a song. She (Mic Girl AKA Hannah Jessica Cecilia Small) is a vocalist outta the UK, and he (The Jinx AKA Jacob Hollingsworth) is a producer outta the Mid West. Interesting. Enjoy!

This past Sat eve I was having an odd day. As I clicked away on my computer, I kept relocating from my home, to the cafe down the street, to the park... never really feeling settled, or comfortable. I'd clack away, look up, see people on dates, people playing with their kids, people rolling slow, soaking it up, and I kinda felt like I might be missing The Point. So, I went home, wrote and recorded this lil' song. Holla.
