As promised I ve put up a part of yesterdays recording online. I am making it a point, if not for anybody else than at least for myself to come each Friday with an almost completely new selection of tunes that otherwise simply collect dust. Only a fraction of the music I buy on a regular is actually meant for club context. I think there were times when I did so many mixtapes people gently asked me to stop. There are still many mixes of mine floating about. But that’s how I stay sharp and acquaint myself with the music. It’s been my first love too, Pause tapes on my mothers double tape deck compact stero. I always felt contextualising music by putting it and in front and after other music, sequencing , is one of the most rewarding things to do to elevate one’s experience. You need to listen to these together, coming out of this mood into that mood. And your brain and heart follows.

What was I saying? My recording from @hearthamsterdam yesterday is up and I enjoy listening to my jams a lot. Played from the heart to be shared with joy.

Zernell was born in Chicago and started DJing at the age of 14. This was during the early years of house music and like a lot of Chicago teens he religiously listened to the Hot Mix 5 on WBMX. Zernell musically grew up in the Music Box and other Chicago clubs listening to the sounds of Ron Hardy and other early pioneers of house music and was schooled by the masters in the art of song selection and timing that drives dancers into a frenzy. Zernell’s Grimy style of music features some of the hottest and rarest house & disco songs and re-edits mixed just the right way to keep you dancing and wanting more, which has made Zernell one of the hottest dj’s in the underground scene today.
 
Zernell has done numerous parties in cities around the globe. He has toured the U.K. and Europe and headlined parties in London, The Netherlands, 
Italy, Sweden, France, Switzerland & Germany. Zernell’s passion for disco & house is as strong as it was in the 80’s and reflects in his extensive record collection of rare vinyl. Out of that passion Zernell created the label Grimy Edits, which have sold thousands of units worldwide.
 
Zernell Gillie's style can range from the heart of disco to the soul of Chicago house with a grimy twist. With over 30 years of Deejaying under his belt, it shows in all of his mixes & live performances. He heads the highly sought after record label Grimy Edits & the sister label Grimy Trax.
