Echoes of the Port is an experimental soundscape which aims to bring to life the multilingual history of the Bristol city docks. We follow J.C. Healey, a (real-life) trader and ship-spotter, as he goes for one of his regular walks around the harbourside. Healey kept meticulous records of the ships in the city docks over a period of more than thirty years, and the soundscape is inspired by his notebooks, which are kept in the Bristol Archives. Echoes of the Port was funded by the Brigstow Institute at the University of Bristol.

Commissioned by the BBC and The Space Arts with funding from Arts Council England as part of Culture in Quarantine, and broadcast on Radio 3's Between the Ears programme, autumn 2020.

A narrative journey loosely based on Shakespeare’s The  Winter’s Tale which puts the listener in an active role at the heart of the play, encouraging them not only to listen, but to dynamically participate in the creation of a unique piece based on their reactions to a set of instructions given throughout.
