My name is Alec Hamilton. I run pleasure gallery which is mix series and radio show. I also put on music nights here in Bristol, UK. 

> q. is there a story behind the mix?

I wanted to make something quite tender and introspective. I chose tracks that I’ve spent time thinking, wandering and musing to since I first got into electronic music. I’m a big chess nerd and recently watched an old documentary about Garry Kasparov, former world chess champion. I enjoyed how it explores the theme of human vs machine, so I thought I’d throw in some excerpts from it for some extra spice. 

> q. what's the best way to enjoy your mix?

I think it suits time alone, a long journey to see old friends or a lazy Sunday. 

> q. describe a favourite object in your living room...

My friend bought me a signed photo of Jason Statham as a housewarming present. It's so ridiculous but I love it, probably the weirdest gift I’ll ever receive, creates a lot of laughs. 

> q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music)?

I held my first pleasure gallery event a few weeks ago and I’m looking forward to hosting more of those.

Rising Sun is the production alias of Steffen Laschinski, a producer and multiple record label curator from Berlin. Since discovering his music last year we’ve become enchanted by his productions and record label Kristofferson Kristofferson.
The name, the project ‚Rising Sun’ and the music was inspired by the music of Tetrode Music, Damon Lamar and Specter have been the initiation in the end of 2007. 
The reserved deep house music that reminds of Larry Heard or early 90’s String House, but is not really a style of its own, all that and the experienced influences of Soul, Funk, Hip Hop, Jazz, Detroit Techno, Ambient and Deep House, are all influential to my music.
More crossover than one specific style. The music itself is the sketchy attempt to detain moments that haven’t been planned, so it’s a statement that I can foresee in any way, even though the open up of a track is always the same, almost like a ritual. The character is to capture and convert the music of rising sun.

The idea with this mix is to sequence a tracklist which captures my own mental model of Isozaki’s building. The spiraling of the Boerdijk–Coxeter helix tower represented as the cross changing of English handbell ringing, or the mist of the rock fountain represented as the air of breath - but also to mix contemporary music with work from around the time of the building’s construction to capture the way in which architectural monuments - which always bears the historical legacy of the time in which it was designed and constructed - are continually juxtaposed with contemporary physical reality as we continue to observe, reassess and inhabit them as an objects in time.
