Blur - Out of Time (Mitchel Emms Cover)

Decided to do a Nirvana cover for the first time in forever, so I chose an obscure cover they did of a Wipers song called "D7" which was on their 1992 EP "Hormoaning". You should definitely check out the original version and the live performance of it at Reading 92 on YouTube. 

It's rather messy and angry and stuff as I recorded it in like 30 minutes. So I apologise for that. Recorded with Ableton Live, Heil Fin Microphone, Danelectro Hodad, Fender Jazz Bass, Boss Roland GT-8, EZ Drummer Supreme.

In the whole of my time making music I don't think I've ever publicly put out a track quite like this one but with this release it's time for something different from me that isn't your usual affair of loud drums and guitars. This one came entirely from me alone in a room with a synth and some big feelings, all the way back in the pandemic times, now finally seeing the light of day.

Lost In Inner Space (Single)

Decided to revisit one of my favourite songs, "Message From The Water" from my first solo album "Vertigo At History's Edge" (2019) and make a performance video of it. As it was a song originally written and produced with guitars in mind, I thought it'd be fun to do an alternative version of it with my synth / keys setup while also performing it live in one take.

This song has always meant a lot to me, while simple lyrically it's about depression and the ways in which you, I or the people we love and know can isolate themselves and disappear from our lives without us knowing, knee deep in the depths of their own situation yet yearning for connection. It's a topic I write about a lot but it was super poignant at the time I wrote it.

Message From The Water (Keys Version)

Rivers Of Ice was one of the first songs I released as a solo artist, all the way back in 2018 when I was in the initial stages of making what would become my first solo album. When I made this song I really felt I'd started to find my voice as an artist and was thrilled when I finished it. I thought it'd be really cool all these years later to revisit it and record a stripped back version of it with my synth / keys setup plus some improvised guitar playing.

This song was inspired by psychedelic experiences after a lifetime of being in the music industry from a young age. While this song has a personal meaning to me, it's written as song for anyone and one of defiance; to take a chance on love and living.

Rivers Of Ice (Keys + Guitar Version)

My new single "DREAMING AWAKE" is out now today on all platforms! From my upcoming album "Euphoric Melancholy".

This was the starting point of my album, when in the winter of 2020 an existential music jam i recorded became this track and kicked off my belief in making my own music again, after a period of writers block following my first album "Vertigo At History's Edge".

I wanted to push the boundaries of what I was capable of as a musician and this track became a 9 minute epic full of shifts in texture and mood with big instrumental moments, again with myself playing and singing every part and mixing every second.

I also wrote this facing the end of my 20s and it was about that reckoning with the inevitable passing of time, and the power that realization gives us to risk it all and take a chance on ourselves and the things we believe in; to rage against the dying of the light.

This song, as well as all of the others on Euphoric Melancholy, are a kind of emotional cartography of the journey I went on to become who I am today.

Whilst I'm finishing up some new original material, I thought I'd upload a cover for you guys in the meantime. I recorded this in early 2018 and didn't really do anything with it until now but it was a lot of fun to make, learning all the different parts, as well as being a personal tribute to one of my favourite songs by the band Slowdive (plus some edgy artwork) x

Mitchel Emms is a multi-instrumentalist Singer / Songwriter & Producer from the Midlands, UK.
 
As a solo artist, Mitch writes, produces and records all his own material in which his goal is to entice the listener into an emotional musical journey whilst combining pop melody with influences spanning  rock, indie, alternative, post-rock, prog and psychedelia, heard on his 2019 debut solo album "Vertigo At History's Edge" and his second album, 2025's "Euphoric Melancholy".

Mitch has been in the music industry since the age  of 10 years old, fronting multiple bands and projects, appearing on TV and radio, touring around the UK and Europe, and placing as a quarter finalist on BBC's The Voice at age 19. From 2024 onward, he appeared internationally as a live multi-instrumentalist for Rambert Dance's "Peaky Blinders: The Redemption Of Thomas Shelby" and as a vocalist on tour with "The Rock Orchestra".
