Maintenance of Life (demo)

Feeling trapped or overwhelmed and having a desire to escape or run away are recurring themes in my thoughts and lyrics (remember Maintenance of Life?). This is not the best song I’ve ever written and I don’t take it that seriously, but maybe I’m not meant to. I wrote it while looking out of a kitchen window, missing someone, and reminiscing over playful little things we’d done together. I later found some footage of me and the extremely tame squirrels at the Boston Commons to match the song 😄

By the way, does the melody (especially the chorus) sound familiar? My biggest fear in songwriting is that I'll accidentally copy someone else's creation 😬. As always, you can watch the lyric video on my YouTube channel 😊 (link in profile)

This is one of several songs I wrote as a child, an expression of my faith. I didn’t notate or record any music back then, but somehow I still remember most of the melodies over a decade later! More will follow; this one is based on Hebrews 12:1-2.

I wrote this song a year ago about all the stress and indecisiveness I felt about life and got to produce it at a creative camp this summer. Big thank you to all who helped me in the music studio! 

I wanted to write a song on guitar but haven't practiced the chords enough to make a good acoustic recording, which is why you haven't heard the song before. Even though I chose the relatively simple chords of Em, F, G, and Am, I still struggle with barre chords like F. Not really sure why I did this to myself 😂

What do you do when you're walking home late one evening, see/feel/hear the rain, and realize it hasn't rained that much in a while? You improvise a folk-style song about rain. I recorded it the same night, with a few remnant raindrops against the window in the background. For context, I just finished a course in Swedish folk singing so you will see more signs of my obsession in the future 😄. This song's in Swedish and I didn't let a native speaker proofread it 😬🤷🏽‍♀️. Anyway, enjoy!

This little song I penned as a child was not based on a specific verse, as far as I can remember. But it's a lovely reminder that we can go to God with all our needs and He has promised to take care of us ❤️

I finally willed myself into blowing the figurative dust off of a stash of unreleased songs and sharing this one with you guys. If I wait for songs to be _finished_ finished before I put them out, it may never happen. So I'll try to share an okay-enough demo every now and then. Let's see how well I do ...

This song touches on a lot of experiences, including feeling like my childhood friends always missed me more than I missed them - until I went to university and felt like I had true friends for the first time. I also moved around a lot growing up. Because life is so fickle, I try to make the most of what I have while it lasts, even if the intensity with which I hold on to things means it hurts even more when it’s time to let them go. I refuse to become indifferent and detached.

The narrative in the second verse of "Mourn in advance" took place a few months before I handed in my bachelor's thesis, graduated from the university where I'd spent three wonderful years of my life, and moved to another country. Now that I'm releasing the song, I'm about to attend the graduation ceremony for my master's and the pattern of moving on repeats :')

It only seemed fitting to round off my childhood songs of faith series with a message of peace. I also discovered that putting a melody to a verse is an excellent way of memorizing it!

This is not a song I actually wrote down in the pink notebook but I included it in this collection as a bonus 😁. I simply came up with a melody for the shortest Psalm in the Bible and it stuck in my memory all these years

Here it is, after many starts and stops: a Swedish cover of Billie Eilish's lovely song "What Was I Made For?" 

This project has been in the works since September and I'm so excited to finally be able to share it with you!! I sat on this idea for a long time because I felt that I didn’t have enough time to execute it. Every time I put a creative project on hold, I hope that life will be less busy soon but that rarely seems to be the case LOL. So despite December being overwhelming again, and finding myself in the midst of burnout (work-related, not music-related), it got to the point where I desperately needed to bring the idea to life. I had a lot of fun coming up with translations that would preserve the feel of the song and still (somewhat) fit the rhyme and the meter, and this time I did ask a native speaker for feedback haha. (Thank you, you know who you are 🤗.) I recorded and produced the song at Aggregat's music studio, and am eternally grateful for this free resource and the kind people that work there ❤️. (Shoutout to Swedish taxpayers for supporting this project!)

After recording, the project lay low for another while until the day I randomly found this doll stuck in a bush in my neighbourhood. I eagerly took a picture of her for my cover art but was too busy cleaning out my room and saying goodbye to friends to edit even a simple video. Yes, I moved. Again. It literally took me a whole week in the new country before I, at long last, could prepare for the upload of this song. Enjoy, and I hope it makes up for my long absence. Tethered

FINALLY!!!! I've been tinkering with this song for many months and am really excited to release it. 

I don't often do music production because it takes so much time, but this song just didn't have the same acoustic ballad-y vibe in my head as my other songs, and I had to do it justice. It's also good to get some practice. I hope it's fun to get a sneak peek of my very basic production setup - but if not, I'll stick to more aesthetic videos for future songs 😂

This song cobbles together some of the pressures put on me throughout my life, both by myself and by others. I haven't quite decided whether that pressure was a good and necessary thing or whether it might have been excessive. I guess the thing with life is that it's not black and white, and something can be both good and bad at the same time. 

These days when I'm disappointed in myself or struggle with decision paralysis, I tell myself that whatever is bothering me doesn't _really_ matter in the grand scheme of things. This actually gives me a lot of relief. Don't get me wrong -- I live a very meaningful life and want to become a better person every day and love to appreciate good things. I am by no means advocating for not caring about anything; but when having options and living with consequences get overwhelming, reminding myself that I'll be okay either way goes a long way and maybe it can for you too ❤️
