Exhausted Modern is the discomforting and thought-provoking alias of Ladislav Zensor, a Czech musician, DJ, head of the Endless Illusion label and resident of Planeta Za.

He has released pieces on labels such as brokntoys, Veyl, and Rotterdam Electronix, and has appeared on numerous compilations, including Power Station’s recent ‘Currents II’ and Syntetyk’s ‘House of Troubles’.

As his moniker suggests, Ladislav is mostly interested in dystopic sonic constructions that rely heavily on analogue technology, industrial feel, and rawness of character. In his musical narratives Exhausted Modern observes and abstracts the fata morganas of our civilisation, dissolving them into his musical compositions. These owe their influence to all nonconformist genres developed with electronic means, whether it be 80’s Detroit or Holland’s later West Coast scene.

His high productivity culminated in 2020 with his first full-length album released on Endless Illusion. ‘The Year of the Rat’ uses metaphors from the Chinese zodiac calendar to amplify comments on broken societal mechanics, capitalistic hierarchies, and the frustrations of its victims – the people. Despite Exhausted Modern’s dystopian sound, one which ranges from fast melancholia to simmering rage on the LP, there are hints of a brighter future scattered in EM’s musical output or his artistic presence.

His label Endless Illusion is an internationally acclaimed imprint which he founded back in 2011. It became a platform for event promotion and music publishing, connecting the Czech scene to the wider world by releasing music from like-minded freaks. With an ever-lasting need to dig deeper, the label has released several records of local electronic music pioneers under the Jupiter 08 sub-series, and Ladislav’s curation of the Endless Illusion mix series brings monthly guest appearances from unsung creators around the world.

Founding member of Junction and Counterpoint rave parties and collectives, he currently shares his passion for music as DJ, producer, radio host and promoter. Also responsible for concert series Deep Dive which he started around 2015. His constant moving between various music scenes includes being part of  rap collective KVLT CREW with his rap alter ego Žakhéles. Totally immersed in music for more than two decades, this DJ set shows his  love for darkwawe, new beat, EBM, electro or italo including new stuff and some future classics.

Captivated by the North Sea, its dune landscape and surrounding dark forests, Dim Garden's musical endeavors expand into swampy synthesis, gothic electronic experimentation, and field recordings. Methods of music production and DJing include using the decks as a method of sound collage, blending warm and cold waves. Together with RJM Vanderheyden, Dim Garden co-runs the DIY independent label Hunger!. The pair also perform and record as the industrial and power electronics duo Baglover.

Cold minimal wave hailing from the 80's German, Belgian and French DIY underground (Der Plan, Neuntage, X-Ray Pop, Absolute Body Control) and more recent wave (EYE, Shaknis & Egzotikka, Dame Area) feature prominently on this mix for Sonidos Subterraneos, including recent releases (Dissemblance, Perchten Scyla, Araf) and unreleased material (norhernorthere, Dim Garden), oscillating between gothic ballads, dance floor tunes and dark ambient musings.

On weekdays she is an engineering lecturer at the National Technical University of Minsk. Weekend audiences are rather different - Elena shares her musical knowledge with the crowds at underground parties.

The Belarus based DJ and producer is probably best known for collaboration with Heinrich Mueller for a conceptual Der Zyklus mini-album on WéMè Records as well as meticulously crafted mixes and her educated taste. Also she is a member of Daughter Produkt project and co-hosting RADIO RITUEL show on french radio LYL.

This mix is a perfect example of Elena's skills and refined palette of soundscapes achieved through over a decade of work and pleasure behind the decks.  She showcases her talent and expertise in an elegant hour-long journey of obscure and intelligent sounds.

The "Mix-en-stock" series is dedicated to leftfield electronic music and is curated by Canadian academic (and former Resident Advisor contributor) Stéphane Girard. He is the author—among other books dedicated to contemporary experimental French literature and Cultural Studies—of "Poétique du mixtape" (Les Éditions de Ta Mère, Montréal), a semiotic investigation of the artistic practices of DJs and of their recorded performances.
