Our latest Mix-Ins features the visionary grooves of Seattle's Cloud Cat. More than just an ill mix, this set is the finale of a trilogy of sets linked by a narrative, titled "DROID'S NIGHT OUT". A futuristic techno love story between a droid compelled to become more human, and a human scientist with a fetish for droids who has secret science-magic that may make such transformations possible.  

The 1h 45min set is sub-divided into three mini sets, each a 'scene' with a mood arc, ranging from dark trippy soulful funk, to emphatic peak hour house, capped off by deep futuristic techno - with many vocal tunes throughout giving voice to the events experienced by the droid and scientist.

In Cloud Cat's own words:
Still processing the tumultuous experience of Sheila's electro-biology science-majick during Act 2, the Droid begins to have the fledgling human emotions and desires that have been his greatest need. The feelings are more confounding and intoxicating than even his A.I. could imagine. He realizes he must decide to regress or evolve more deeply.

Sheila is developing a need to transform towards the cybernetic herself, to enhance her powers and she senses it will aid in having the two become one. It remains to be seen how their connection will manifest.

Their paths are unique and intertwined, and the future holds untold events with music ever at the fore. Yet the Droid's creators don't want him to deviate from his programming...

Since landing in Boston in late 2019, DJ Natasha has graced the decks at events like Dancing on the Charles, LoveStrukk, Groove, and other underground parties.  She also occasionally broadcasts live sets on Twitch for Boston Upstream.
We were excited to get to see her up close at GROOVE in March, loved what she played and knew we wanted to hear more. Her record selection and beautifully blended stylings kept the dance floor going all night. 

Let’s rewind to St. Louis, 2006. A chance opportunity led her to step boldly into her vision. With a natural ear and an intuitive sense of rhythm, she taught herself to mix vinyl and began spinning alongside new friends at a beloved local hangout.
By 2009, DJ Natasha was thriving in Los Angeles—balancing a music supervision internship, performing at magazine launches and fashion shows with her all-female DJ collective, and curating themed nights at venues across Hollywood and Beverly Hills.

Natasha thrives in contrast, and her sets reflect that dynamic. Expect a vibrant fusion of tropical percussive disco, sassy glitter-house vocals, piano-forward bangers, acid-tinged retro synths, and moody post-punk textures—each track a nod to the eras and emotions that shaped her.

This mix was laregely inspired by Natasha's upcoming trip to MOVEMENT in Detroit. A nod to many of the amazing artists and parties that seem impossible for one weekend away.

Our latest Mix-Ins session is from one of our favorite DJs.  B-Milk never disappoints and we were so excited that he said yes when we asked him to join us for a special trip down memory lane. Remember the Future Volume 1 is the kind of timeless mix that  draws a linkage between Funk and Electro while also drawing a linkage between the past and the future. Its that sweet spot where the bridge between Hip Hop dancers and the Raver world can once again reunite. 

When I first met Bobby Milk a few summers ago at his BBQ we took a walk down into the basement where his record collection resides. My fingers felt immediately itchy and I started feeling this instant jealousy and excitement. Diggers Paradise I am telling you. I was starting to understand after some conversations, why he is a favorite amongst the B-Boy Crews and House Heads alike. His humble approach and desire for bigger and better sounds is something we need more of in this world.

Michael has long been on our radar for his impeccable musical tastes and talents.  Since his earlier days in Boston working for Satellite Records, writing record reviews for Turntable Lab as well holding the role of Content Director for Dubspot,  we've always known that Michael would continue to do big things.  You can currently find him writing and doing photography for Ableton & other sites and if you're lucky you can catch him playing music in various venues around the world.  Admittedly Michael loves playing smaller and intimate gatherings where the music feels most special and we couldn't agree more.  We are thrilled to showcase his talents here.

It’s been raining in California for three months and I didn’t realize until putting this mix together that I’ve been buying a lot of deep and somber tracks to weather the storm. Michael Walsh -  Monthly Mix Ins

We've been very excited to share the latest Mix-Ins Session featuring one of our favorites @MO7S . From way back it was obvious that Steve was going to do big things in his musical endeavors.  His style, tastes and technique have always made a lasting impression on us and to those around him.  

Djing since 1993. MO7S, got his start cutting and scratching during the early years of turntablism. Through the mid nineties, the early New York and New England club and rave scenes inspired the sound he still plays today. “Maxi-minimal Acid Bass,”  with roots in techno, acid, dark garage and breaks. 
He has worked for several record stores including Satellite as buyer and DJ. By the turn of the millennium, he had performed internationally and opened for everyone from John Digweed to The Jungle Brothers. His editorial contributions reached magazines such as Rinse, XLR8R & Urb and more. In 2004, he moved to California and began curating for his label, Monism Music. By 2010, Monism had been licensed to TV & Film. He was featured on Kid Capri's "Masters of The Mix" on BET & VH1 and placed as a National finalist. His was later featured on several episodes of American Dad! on TBS and FOX. He continues to produce with upcoming releases on Tight Groove, 3AM Devices, Monism and more. His 4th studio album is rumored to be released later this year.

Mix-Ins with MO7S

Born and raised on the east coast, Sparatik (Nichole Girard) has lived in major cities including Manhattan, Boston, San Francisco, Orlando, and now Los Angeles. As a DJ of 20 years, she’s performed around the US as well as Tokyo and Istanbul and has had the opportunity to be immersed in house music in many different subcultures around the country. She has performed at late-night events, fashion/art shows, swank restaurants, and beyond.  She has also produced a number of her own events around the country including undergrounds, monthly events and podcasts. 

Sparatik graduated from Full Sail in 2000 with degrees for Digital Media and Recording Arts, and is also a student of Berklee Music (Boston, MA). She spent time teaching at Full Sail (Basic and Advanced MIDI, Web Design) and SAE-Los Angeles (Audio Technology Program), and continues to design and work on her own electronic music.  We can't wait to hear what happens next.

DJ Bruno is a name that needs little to no introduction. However, we'd be missing an opportunity to express how deeply grateful we are to be hosting this exclusive mix from one of House Musics greatest contributors. Bruno has always been there for us. We can recall times when record shopping in Boston was an easy way to spend your weekend hours. Visiting Bruno at his Biscuithead Records Store was easily the best stop. Somehow you left there with so much more than just vinyl. The respect he showed for his customers and friends always left a lasting impression. You always came away better for it. Whether you were lucky enough to catch those early years at  the Loft or stumbled into any of his Utopia parties in Boston, you know that his closest friends are family. Everyone is welcome. The dancing and Unity are infectious. It's been there as long as I can remember. How many cities or scenes can say that ? 

This one hour mix is something special that many will be pleasantly surprised by. A few years back, Bruno played an old school Jungle set at Elements in Cambridge Ma. The longest running drum & bass night in the country we might add. While Bruno is well known for Deep house and beyond, it's not every day that you'd catch something so completely spectacular. He tore it up with all the riddims and rolls and made it look effortless. From that day on, I always wanted to share that experience with anyone I could. This mix brings House and Jungle together. Wicked.

DJ BRUNO’s been djing in Boston since 1987. Became known in the college scene in the late 80’s to early 90’s for mixing Hip Hop, Reggae, RnB & House Music. Then in 1991 he began a residency at the BOSTON LOFT with Armand Van Helden. Then in February of 1992 he started the Legendary Utopia Parties. Utopia still remains as one of Boston’s hottest DEEP HOUSE MUSIC events. In 2006 Boston Magazine awarded him DJ OF THE YEAR. In 2007 Weekly Dig awarded Utopia Sundays the BEST HOUSE NIGHT IN BOSTON. On December 22, 2012 he was forced to retire due to health issues with diabetes. That same evening politician Tito Jackson gave him an award that said December 22, 2012 was DJ BRUNO DAY. After an operation which caused him to lose some of his vision he enrolled in the Carroll Center for the Blind. At the center he learned to cope with his blindness and to continue loving life. Still determined to do what he loves he came out of retirement on July 2013. That same month he released his first mix cd in 14 months titled “BLIND FURY”. Today he is still doing what he loves and will continue to do so until the day he dies. “LIFE AIN’T WORTH LIVING IF YOU CAN’T DO WHAT YOU LOVE DOING!”

DJ Food aka Strictly Kev is a world class producer, DJ, Graphic Designer, Turntablist wizard and beyond. We can't wait for you to hear this SMASHING good (almost 2 hour) mix.  An artist  in the truest sense and form, his knowledge of all things cool, bizarre and odd come together in everything he does. We have been a long time admirer to say the least.
As of late, you can find many things of interest in foodie land. One particular thing we are in awe of is the  DJ Food's AV Series presenting Kraftwerk:  Klassics, Kovers and Kurio's. The DJ set collects tracks that sample the band as well as cover versions and a few oddities along the way, all set to video sources that reflect the band and their music.  North American promoters please make this happen. If this show is anything like the Caught In The Middle of A 3-Way Mix – a tribute to The Beastie Boys‘ ‘Paul’s Boutique’ album then I want that ticket, and you do too. That show in Montreal, some time ago, was one of the best experiences we can recall in many years. 

When we hit play on the Rave Up mix for the first time, our minds and ears were BLOWN. We've been listening to this style of music for so  many years, and to hear it masterfully put together in such a unique way was really special. Sometimes not knowing what was old vs what was new....bending time and truly becoming something of its own.  Everything just happened to line up with a special birthday shout and we will let the man himself give you his own perspective on this banging thunderous raved out mix of the ages. Thank you so much Kevin. 

"This mix is a showcase for the kind of club music that’s currently floating my boat. The contemporary acid scene in the UK has been growing steadily over the last decade and is in rude health with old and new producers making some of the most exciting electronic dance music I’ve heard in years. Elements of rave have been creeping in of late but it’s not all a nostalgia trip back 30 years to the Second Summer of Love, there’s plenty of new innovations like the 160+ bpm acid tracks I open the mix with. The Balkan Vinyl/I Love Acid and Cosmic Bridge crews feature heavily and I’ve included old hands like Josh Wink, Plastikman and D.H.S. too but most of this music came out in the last year or two. At nearly 2 hrs - one of the longest guest mixes I’ve ever done - I could have gone on and on, there was so much good music to include and I had a lot of fun making this for Mix-Ins"

This month’s Mix – Ins comes from someone who is approaching his 36th year DJing. Selections and overall vibe were inspired by his evening set under the moon and stars at Rise of Anti Festival V this past September. 

The Rise of the Anti Festival is an end of summer getaway where a small group of friends from every corner reconnect and hear skilled DJ's who are encouraged to “play outside of the box”, often choosing music that dares to be different. It’s a super cool, intimate vibe, and is fast becoming a yearly staple for us.

This one hour 45 minute mix is a fantastic representation of getting down with new and old friends outdoors. Many twists and turns take place while playing the long game. This is certainly a journey of magic and mystery, beat juggling, house and chuggy goodness all wrapped up in the essence of one of my lifelong favorites.

What is AHG?  You could call it a party, a gathering, a festival, or simply an experience. An experience unlike any I have ever encountered. That may sound bold to some, especially for those who know how I've dedicated so much of my life to seeking out the strange, beautiful, unique & extra special moments in time.  I’ve seen many things, but nothing quite like AHG. 

When I first met CJ I had no idea the kind of mind I was sparring with; the generosity & kindness that also encompassed this creative explosion of a person. Something I was searching for and desperately needed in my life was soon to follow. This chance meeting opened up the floodgates to a galaxy of others who were also entranced by the weird, beautiful & unique. Our playful north shore/ south shore beef soon turned into a friendship & I am so grateful to be welcomed into this community of amazing people who just happen to throw the most epic party of all time.

The people of AHG descend each year to Schoolhouse Farm, a pastoral rural gem set deep in the woods of Plympton.  Everyone brings the best of their own talents & sense of wonder. The level of art, dance, music, & family is unparalleled.  AHG is a collective of like-minded people who understand the reciprocal nature of the creative flow.  Hundreds of people giving of themselves with pure benevolent intent, blurring the lines that often separate performers from a festival crowd.  At AHG, everyone is a participant.  This communal spirit is cut from the cloth of the old way, & personifies something elusive that so many of us were lacking, perhaps without even realizing it.

AHG came to life in 1997. From humble beginnings, the event grew organically but exponentially in the years to follow.  As it evolved, the AHG community maintained a steadfast commitment to preserving the radical positive spirit that came to define this secret subculture.  For those who were there in the early years & helped it grow into its current form, respect for the AHG ethos was paramount.  AHG invitations were not broadcast, but whispered in strict confidence between the best of friends.  Nothing on social media.  No promoters.  No tickets.  A pure grass roots event.   

2019 marked something a bit different for AHG.  Having witnessed countless incredible bands and visual artists bringing their A-Game year after year, I was skeptical when I heard rumors of a special late-night guest at AHG 2019.  My attention was enveloped by the moment as fire spinners and an entire troupe of interpretive dancers elevated the consciousness of the crowd.  Culminating in a moment of  impossible psychic energy, an ALIEN PHAROAH was consumed by flames that seemed to open up a portal to a space beyond time.  In the raging firelight of this climactic moment, I saw a familiar face at the controls.  Transitioning seamlessly from the production soundtrack, I saw a friend at the mixer bridging the gap between worlds.  Validating the rumors I had heard, I turned my attention to a DJ I have seen crush musical boundaries in the rave scene for over 25 years. MIDAS.

As the burn ceremony morphed into a pyrotechnic Midas set, I felt frozen. Time seemed to stand still as the music blossomed into 3 blissful hours of Midas gold. The crowd was hypnotized. The Midas set was originally planned as a transition, but the acoustic artists scheduled to follow acknowledged that the mood was otherworldly & the entire crowd surrendered to the flow.  Midas unleashed a nuanced and psychedelic soundtrack as lasers carved patterns into a vortex of smoke upon which burning embers danced into the cosmos before dissolving into blackness and descending silently to the ground.

Midas wove together an eternal golden braid of music and spirit.  Different colors and styles surrendering to a common resonance.  We all knew we were in precisely the right place at exactly the right time.

AHG FOREVER.  THIS IS THE ART OF LETTING GO.

DROID'S NIGHT OUT ACT 2: The Arcane Arts of Sheila Cyclotron
In Act 1 the droid met a mysterious human woman on the dance floor.  She is Sheila Cyclotron, a lab data scientist by day, but by night she is a sonic sorceress and secretly practices the forbidden science of Electro-Biology. Attracted to the cybernetic, she craves meaningful connection. The droid has imperfect circuitry and has a need to be more human. Compelled by her feelings for him, Sheila uses the untamed forces of her audio science-magick in an attempt to transform and expand his mind and emotions, but what will the result be for the droid, and for them both?
