Riding high on the critical and internet success from November’s Ballin’ Oates, The Melker Project is at it again with Red Hot Trilli Peppers. “On this epic offering, The Melker Project mixes six Red Hot Chili Peppers classics with the likes of Future, 2 Chainz, Dr. Dre, Tupac and everyone in between.” (BroBible).

His 5th EP focusing on a single classic artist, Red Hot Trilli Peppers was a formidable project. “I've been listening to the Chili Peppers since I was in middle school, and have always wanted to remix their songs – they’re the sh#t! The breadth of their catalogue is astounding, so it was tough to choose the perfect tracks." Melker says.

The Melker Project’s methods are truly a labor of love, as he replays most of the individual instruments with updated sounds and synths. He then uses these new sounds to remix the tracks, and later reincorporates samples from the original Chili Peppers songs. After all of this is done, he combines his new versions with appropriate vocals. Melker explains, ”In the case of ‘Breaking The Girl,’ I decided to do a straight up remix with the vocal being the only element of the original track.

I don't like Girl Talk's new album. There. I said it. Happy now?

All Day is the follow-up to 2008 breakthrough album Feed The Animals, which itself was preceded by 2006's Night Ripper. For me, both these records represent a seminal moment in my consumption of music. They made me get the mash-up art form. Both where pacey, energetic, fun and intelligent. Somehow, Greg Gillies - aka Girl Talk - managed to coherently knit together five generations of music that seemingly spanned every genre known to man.

I heard All Day was two years in the making. A good thing, right? Such a length of time would allow an artist to consider their work, re-evaluate it, make changes. But for this kind of gonzo-genre, has it proved fatal? All Day sounds flat and lifeless, like the fun has been picked out of it. Samples are drawn out and hang around for way too long which is a serious problem. There are moments that hark back to the genius of Night Ripper and Feed The Animals - Triple Double for instance - but they are few in number and only point to what could have been. Girl Talk was meant to be music for the ADHD generation. Well, this album is dedicated to those kids adequately medicated, attending after school catch up lessons.

All Day has been roundly praised on the blogs, but in the long run I fear the album will put in the cupboard like a toy with a flat battery. On the plus side, All Day was released as a free download via the Illegal Art website.

Girl Talk-Triple Double

THE FIRST TRACK FROM "SKEETWOOD MAC," dropping on 2/4/13!!!

Fleetwood Mac is one of the greatest bands ever. Producers rarely remix Fleetwood Mac. Why you ask? Most remixers and mashup artists focus solely on what is “hot” now – you know, pop songs and EDM “hits.” The Melker Project wanted to buck the trend and introduce mashup fans to some of the timeless classics that often go untouched in remix culture. You know, GOOD songs.

“Skeetwood Mac” is the first in a series of EPs being released by The Melker Project, each focusing on a different classic artist.  As the name implies, this EP is comprised of five Fleetwood Mac songs, each mashed up with Hip Hop and R&B standards. 

This track features the Fleetwood Mac classic "The Chain" mixed with a 2 Chainz instrumental and 3 2 Chainz verses.  "The (2) Chain (z)." Clever, right?
