Dub Techno Blog Guest Mix 002 - Mist Soundscapes

Sebastián Olah, known artistically as ARIA, is a Colombian DJ and producer based in Atlanta who has transformed his background as a guitarist , influenced by Pink Floyd and Dream Theater, into his own electronic language. His project is defined by a deep and melodic sound, where organic textures, hypnotic grooves, and a narrative that favors progression over immediate impact converge. This vision has allowed him to build a solid identity within the electronic scene, with performances at his AU-RA events, where he has shared the stage with artists such as Dubfire, Carl Craig, Âme, Brian Cid, and Tim Green.

His music seeks to create sensorial journeys rather than momentary explosions, a vision reflected in works like his edit of “Rodriguez Jr. – Synthwave,” where he amplifies the essence of the original without losing subtlety. ARIA is not just a selector, he understands the dance floor as a narrative space and his sets as a bridge between the rhythmic precision of the DJ and the compositional sensitivity of the musician. At this intersection lies his artistic proposal — a constant pursuit of evolution and an invitation for his audience to experience something both emotional and physical.

The globe-hopping producer has a knack for weaving together the raw energy of Electro, the swing of UK Garage, and the cheeky irreverence of House into tracks that sound as spontaneous as they are deliberate. With releases on Bliss, Sucre Discs, Non Stop Rhythm, Howl and his own imprint Phlex Recs, Ballan has carved out a corner of the underground where grooves hit heavy but always come with a wink.

His latest adventure finds him on Alec Falconer’s ever-mischievous SUNNY label, following Phill Prince’s “Playground Pleasure” with an equally playful yet razor-edged two-tracker: “Different Shapes / Eurocup Mess.” One track born on a beach in Thailand, another out of admiration for Thierry Henry and a love letter to Electro - together they encapsulate Ballan’s refusal to play by any rulebook except his own.

Fresh off a Euro summer and ahead of his contribution to the art:cast series, Ballan sat down with Torture the Artist to talk about the accidents that make tracks special, guilty pleasures that would shock the underground, and why every morning starts with coffee, a computer, and a burst of creativity.

He founded WARPED, one of the region’s most respected underground brands, and hosted a monthly show on Ibiza Global Radio spotlighting rising talent from the Middle East and India. As a certified sound engineer and co-founder of KitchenSync Records, his production work spans labels worldwide—delivering everything from deep techno to groove-laced / stripped down / minimalistic  - house & techno with a distinct, evolving sound.
