in the beginning of the 80s i discovered my fondness for mixes. i was born in east germany, weekends often were boring, especially after midnight. so i searched indiscriminately through the radio stations and got caught at rias2. extremely contented i listened to the sounds presented to me. damn it - what was that? smooth or alternatively crazy sounds got into my ears, and i was so thrilled by them. my love of mixes was born, i just couldn't get enough of them! The man i owe so much was barry graves (july 26, 1942 – september 8, 1994), the "magic word" was RIAS DANCE SHOW. he was ahead of his time, and every saturday he presented stuff which was inconceivable for germany in those days: THE MIX! he played original recordings from US radio stations (e.g. WBLS, 92KTU, WRKS). well, yes, even today i am impressed by "Studio 89". by the way: barry graves' last words in his last broadcasting were as follows: "...and you know, wherever you will listen to studio 89: it remains No. 1!"
