DJ extraordinaire, Jmcee is Melbourne’s “Breakfast Club” god father / head honcho and resident lord / legend of the infamous “Killing Time” and “Circus” venues. 

Jmcee’s approach to music is with his cornerstone philosophy of how much the "now" is indebted to the "then". Of how much the evolution of modern-day dance music owes to the environment it came from. An older environment he sees to be so firmly seeded in the pioneering days of early blues, funk and soul. Jmcee’s unique childhood origin with music comes from varied sights and vigilante sounds of St. Kilda during the late 80s. It’s with these roots that his well-known transc​endent​al genre blending can begin to be understood. Weaving offcut samples like afro american slave and spiritual rhythms into a tapestry of jagged, dry percussion based tech, a Jmcee set bridges the oft neglected gap between todays 4/4 and yesterdays groove. The only thing clear is that his love and deep respect for natural roots grooves and and their current day offspring will become only further interconnect​ed and merged within his music. 

Jmcee has played across the globe at some of the highest quality festivals and clubs the world has to offer, including Rainbow Serpent Festival, Fusion Festival, Waking Life Festival, Chi Wow Wah Town, Sisyphos, Revolver, Breakfast Club and SASH... just to name a few. Jmcee brightens his dancefloors in a way which manages to outcolour an already overco​loured habitat.

This Downtempo / Trip Hop / Hip Hop mix takes you on an excursion through the years and pivotal moments in music that have introduced us to genres and sounds that make you go “what’s this?!”. This is a gracious mix with a unique journey, passionate and poetic lyrical spits, drenched in harmonious & emotive melodies and effects, underscored with killer break-beats and resonate bass bumps. In this edition of Low-Key Reservations, LackLuster dives deep into his treasure trove of twisted trip-hop. Inspired by and featuring tracks from Desmond Cheese’s “Space and Time” album, this mix aims to explore the bizarre, the quirky and the dystopian. It is Luke’s infectious energy coupled with his ability to move a dance floor that has seen him emerge as one of the dominant players in Melbourne’s music scene. Luke’s diverse musical range and ability to read a crowd has seen him perform in a variety of environments, like the main stage at a festival to an intimate live guitar performance and everything in between.

Luke Vecchio is a constantly evolving artist, allowing his music to naturally unfold alongside his own life path, taking inspiration from all avenues of music. Luke’s intimate knowledge of music and dedication to the craft, has seen his production develop at a prodigious rate. His influences range far and wide across the musical spectrum and this is on full display with his mixes, gigs and catalog of tracks to date.

LKR Volume 15 hears Luke Vecchio take us on an excursion through a Trip Hop fantasy with downbeat delights, glamorous grooves and soul sweeping tunes. Including two unreleased tracks by himself that he’s whipped up specially for this mix. Phil Smart has been a fixture on the Australian electronic music scene since the early warehouse rave days in Sydney. He has played lots of records to lots of people in lots of clubs, bars, warehouses, fields, deserts, basements, carparks and bunkers over the years. He’s renowned for playing fresh sounds and forward thinking electronic music, and has been involved in running some of the most legendary parties and events in Sydney and beyond. Phil has even played all around the world and alongside many premium international talents, at many festivals, clubs, bars and venues.

Phil has one of the most extensive DJ resume’s in the history of Australian DJ’s. With too many affiliations to even mention in this write up. Phil has left his mark and influence all over the scene since the late 80’s. From holding long standing residencies and playing at many iconic dance events that have paved the way for Australian electronic music, to releasing music on diverse labels such as Motorik, Junkbeats and Future Classic, to running an eclectic history of club nights with focuses on specific genres, tempos and eras of music, to co-founding Burning Seed - Australia’s first and largest regional Burning Man, to DJing and curating music for Yoga and sound healing events, to running record labels and so much more. Phil is the DJ’s DJ of choice.

This exquisite 50 minute all vinyl mix is a brief glimpse into Phil Smarts deep vinyl collection, featuring trip hop tracks that are all pre-2003. If you listen closely, you can hear the crackle in the recording. Phil has searched his crates to uncover old and lost vinyls with rare tripped out sounds, swinging you right back to that 90s flavour. Let this mix take you on an excursion through beats with class, bass with style, melody with soul and a unique energy that only wax provides. It is an honour to feature Phil Smart on the Low-Key Reservations mix series, hopefully the first of many volumes from this DJ wonder.
