After his critically acclaimed debut album, Djrum and 2nd Drop are proud to present a limited edition 10” vinyl release of two amazing reworks. 

West London’s Onoe Caponoe is one of the most exciting MCs in the UK right now, having pinged up on 2nd Drop’s radar after dropping two blazing albums on Audio Doughnuts in the past couple of years. Djrum has been featuring Onoe’s Milkyway 1311 in his sets on a regular basis, and this naturally led to him taking the tools to it and giving it a tweak in wonderful Djrum style. It’s hip hop, but not as we know it, as Djrum installs a drum pattern that sounds like a cascading waterfall and his trademark use of strings which underpin Onoe’s funkadelic vocals perfectly. This is a great introduction to some forthcoming collaborations between these two on 2nd Drop. Watch this space!

Royce Wood Junior, known for his work with Jamie Woon and Stac among others, is an uber talented multi-instrumentalist and all round nice guy. The original has yet to be released (looking like 2014), so this version will only be available on vinyl for the foreseeable future. Djrum has transformed the track into a brooding masterpiece which emphasises the heartfelt lament of Royce’s vocal to maximum effect. A classic in the making.

Im starting to think of time as a substance or substrate that generates atmospheres and within these atmospheres cultures can grow. Our own time for the last 600 years or so can be characterized by the clock, the Newtonian universe where God is the watchmaker and life became measurable in isolated moments. The ancient (preliterate maybe) version of time is all-encompassing geometry of the womb that stimulates the hearing, a multi-directional vibration, opposed to the linear visions of reading print or ‘seeing a sight’. The modern world of time is a tautology, the ancient world of time is a tumulus (a dome-like swelling of the earth).
But of course, these notions aren’t static and can play against each other paradoxically depending on dominant attitudes. With the rushing into our senses of the electrical experience, the tribal all-at-once-ness moves us more towards the archetype and away from the cliche. A cliche could be experienced as the congealed perception that creates a blockage in the flow of time and the archetype is an eruption of images from an original, changeless form.

Electric communication has in some sense illuminated the door back into the archetypal consciousness, but if I’ve learned anything from the poetry of Rumi it's that I know the Moon always enters through the window.
Cultures don’t really end, they are refined. Our definitions of time and space dictate this process, and just like the churches that were built from the rubble of the Mayan temples, our own atmosphere of technological superiority is built directly on top of ancient history. Maybe we have such a hard time seeing it because we forgot how to listen...

Hayk Karoyi's latest album is a masterful fusion of traditional and modern sounds that showcases the artist's unique cultural identity. As an Armenian multi-instrumentalist skilled in woodwinds, Karoyi has created an album that is a synthesis of acoustic instruments, field recordings, and electronic elements.

"The album is a journey through Karoyi's subconscious, as he uses his traditional instruments to explore the full spectrum of his cultural identity. As a mixed heritage artist, Karoyi does not try to be or sound purely Armenian in his music. Instead, he draws from his influences in both East Mediterranean and Armenian cultures to create a sound that is both familiar and new.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Taq Arevi Tak" which is also the title of the album, features a mesmerizing blend of electronic beats and traditional Armenian woodwinds. The track is a perfect example of how Karoyi's music seamlessly blends traditional and modern sounds

The album will be released on March 3rd both digitally and on limited edition cassettes
