Staying loyal to his eclecticism, Mori Ra approaches this time a lil more to the dancefloor by doing a more hedonistic work than his previous release on "MM Discos" , an exuberant "disco-no-disco" exercise mixed with ethnic references, wicked percussion, charming marimbas and an endless of psychedelic elements. A record done for the soul; spiritual, mystic, highly addictive and 100% danceable.

A very special release where the Japanese artist has involved his son who helped with choosing the sound source for this record.

In 2019, before the global pandemic, Auntie Flo continued his one man mission to connect with musicians all over the world, this time visiting South Korea to record 'Bells In The DMZ'. 'High Flight' is a remix of a track originally created by his host Akimbo, centred around traditional instruments from Korea, the ‘daegeum’ played by Seungmin Cha, and the ‘gayageum’ played by Oh Yeon Gyeong. The artwork is by Korean artist Da-in Kim and will be available as a print as part of the release.

After just over a year-long hiatus from the Earthly Tapes series – the 3rd Chapter is finally upon us. Offering more mind-altering tracks to the series, we welcome 6 new members to the Earthly Measures familia!

We kick things off with ‘Comets (part I & II)’, the first release by ORSO, the new musical project from Jean Dasso AKA Yeahman, stepping into club and drum music. Alongside faster rhythms, he is influenced by UK Break music, African dances and traditional instruments. In the opening track for Earthly Tapes 03, we’re taken through a two chapter journey led by modular melodic loops, old traditional voices samples, ORSO’s own recordings.

We then take a trip to Argentina as we welcome Balam to the EM family, join him as he takes you on a daydream across the Latin-American rainforest where synthesizers and nature collide to make the perfect mix, guided by a voice from the deep jungle. ‘Ensueño’ is a dance-floor tool for both the start and end of the night.

Japanese native Mamazu brings up the tempo for the third track ‘Tombi’. Transporting us to a hypnotic and hedonistic state as delightful aerophones sound with the exotic chant delivering the feeling of a dry breeze from the unseen frontier. Another dance floor ripper!

The B-side starts with ‘Voces’, a track inspired by the music that Chilean artist DJ Raff’s mum listened to when he was a teenager making beats in his bedroom. He used to take her records and tapes to sample and make boom-bap beats at the time. Every time he showed her a new beat, she had the ability to recognize the track that he sampled. Voces is influenced by both Spanish and Chilean 70’s music, although very deconstructed and hidden.

Ditti takes us through ever-twisting waves as we swim upstream, spot the time and take off... welcome to ‘Poly Party’. The soundtrack to a carnivalesque funked out ballad on a Polynesian beach shifting between slide & ride, cutting synths and dripping flows.

We wrap things up with ‘Small Town Rebellion’, a story told by Scottish producer Kusht – this downtempo chugger reflects the story of a young man in a dead-end town with no future. He needs to break his fate and carve his own path by revolting and manifesting his own destiny.

Arc To Time

Rhythm Section welcomes Nicola Cruz to the fold with his debut EP on the imprint, ‘Subtropique’, out on the 19th February. The new signing is announced with the hip-hop influenced lead single ‘Individuality Riddim’. 

Inspired by an Ecuadorian upbringing, percussion is at the heart of how Nicola operates, with his style finding a natural home on the London label. Presenting 5 expansive efforts equally indebted to traditional drumming as they are to contemporary club sounds, ‘Subtropique’ remains sonically cohesive without feeling the need to settle to a definable style. The tracks are tied together by a lucid psychedelic thread, which despite challenging the expectations and fundamentals of electronic dance music, demand movement at a time where we yearn for it. 

The EP is a new experiment for Nicola who had to strip back his setup to produce at home, using fewer elements. Noting the power of collaboration, Nicola enlisted long-time collaborator and master of drums Pablo Vincencio for ‘Zularic Permutations’. On ‘Barretto’, Nicola recognises the history of his influences, paying tribute to the North American percussionist Ray Barretto from the golden age of La Fania - a collective and record label originating in NYC in the 60s which is renowned for helping to bring Latin music to a global audience. 

Nicola has gone on to become one of South America's most celebrated electronic musicians, with monthly listeners in the millions across Europe and Latin America via releases on ZZK Records, Optimo Music and Multi Culti, and famous Boiler Room and Cercle performances.
