The first LP since 2008’s ‘Corresponding Echoes’ on his Sacred Rhythm Music, Joaquin Joe Claussell arrives on Radio Slave’s Rekids for ‘Raw Tones’, a nine-track excursion through the sound of his
exquisitely soulful house music.

Originally released on uber limited cassettes, the music within ‘Raw Tones’ caught the ear of Radio Slave, aka Matt Edwards, who messaged Claussell, a friend since remixing Edwards’ Machine project in 2012, and convinced the legendary producer that the music needed a wider audience and, so, ‘Raw Tones’ the LP is here.

Introspective opening cut ‘Lock Down’ draws for breathy strings and swirling pads, followed by the hypnotic and low-slung ‘The Blame Game (Table Top Idea)’, which sees jazzy keys float around carefully
crafted dubbed-out ambience and subtle, whispered vocals. 

‘Break Free’ ups the energy, bringing a wonky bassline under decisive, machine-like drum hits while both spoken and sung vocals interplay throughout. ‘You Mutha Fuka’ brings rock-solid drums and thick bass underneath delayed vocals before the dreamy chords and twinkling keys of ‘Way Back Then’ close out the B-side. 

The gorgeous ‘Air We Breathe (Revisited Cassette Demo)’ marries rolling percussion across live bass and softly drawn out pads, followed by an instrumental version of ‘Break Free’. The final side of vinyl sees the extended trippiness of ‘If It's All In Your Mind Let It Out’ lead into the floaty low tempo closer ‘Hallucinations Ejaculations’.

There were all sorts of shimmering shapes and colours floating atop the water as he watched perched upon a boat heading down stream. They moved softly on the rolling waves as they travelled through the old town - onlookers gazed out upon the spectacle, they say nestled amidst the reeds on the shore. For some of them it would be the first time that they had ever seen a parade or procession as grand and fantastic as this - the wild colours were electric and ethereal aboard the floating ships. It were as if they'd touched down from outer space. 

Because of Art is a producer who is receiving wide acclaim and support from some of the biggest and best dj's out there. With releases on the likes of Skream and Sasha's labels thus far, now he sets up shop on Anja Schneider's Sous Music with a track called 'Ethereal'.

@bartvanrijn’s STUG has long been a source of great inspiration for in-the-know heads. His latest reminds us of the fact, as the label head snaps up one of contemporary electronic music’s most alluring characters for the label’s ninth such outing — a five-track EP backed with remixes from @worksofintent (fka R.O.S.H.) and @skudge-1.

Kicking off proceedings is 'Storm', a peak-time cut that’s layered with killer synths and a meandering baseline that’s both deep and driving. Hypnotic but also endlessly groovy, it gets us underway in seriously assured fashion. 

Works Of Intent then transforms 'Storm' via his 'Lorenz System' remix. A far cry from the original, it plays out in intriguing fashion, with its heavenly, almost trance-leaning backbone an interesting foil for its twinkling melodies and larger-than-life baseline.
