There’s few as intent on continuing dance music’s rich cultural history as St. Petersburg’s Rat Galactic. Listening to their sets you’re likely to hear music from decades ago amongst fresh tracks from modern producers. Unconcerned with genre boundaries, you’ll instead find Rat’s sets united by unique percussive tracks and deep rolling basslines. Rat’s love for the old school informs their mixing style where stand-out tracks are placed in the midst of trance inducing segments for maximum impact. 

From promoting, to design work, to simply lugging PA a sharp eye can find Rat’s contributions on some of the most underground parties in Tampa Bay. Alongside fellow eclectics Kay-S and Blak, Rat Galactic helped form Refuge, a jungle and drum and bass monthly after attending SUNANDBASS in Sardinia. After seeing the community spirit, as well as the full force range and eclecticism of the genres, the three set to work on Refuge nights.     

The name Rat Galactic came from a desire to remain lighthearted and humble. Rodents are obsessive creatures, squirreling away things of value (like records), and they are most comfortable in dark corners. With a passion for science fiction and spacey beats “Galactic” was a natural choice. It also happens to sound great on the mic.

For our 50th anniversary we present you three unreleased, hypnotic Acid-versions of PsychoPlasma „Forbidden Planet“, a tune that was recorded in 1994 and came out as 12“ on Tanjobi Records in 1996. We already re-released it on Forms & Figures a few years ago. These other three versions were recorded by Alex Krüger during one night and were based on the same bass- and drum patterns of the PsychoPlasma version from few days earlier that were still in sequencer memory.

At the time Alex was still working with an all analogue setup that was based around Rolands X0X series and cv/gate sequencers, so everything sounds very early 1990s, trippy, raw and was arranged and recorded in real-time on cheap equipment. 

Some inspiration obviously came from Laurent Garnier’s „Fnac“ label, that we know Alex liked a lot at the time.

'In Pursuit of Pleasure' is a curation of music comprised of trans, non-binary, queer and LGBTQIA+ allies in the music community - with an emphasis around the more leftfield side of electronic and experimental music, released by fabric, the nightclub and record label based in East London. Of the proceeds from the V/A there will be a donation to the LGBTQIA+ charity Rainbow Migration - a charity for those who seek asylum due to their sexual orientation where their welfare maybe at risk.

The Black Bones story is born out of a shared obsession for crate digging, collecting, and the playing of weird and wonderful music. Their releases so far have manifested in a highly-sought series of seven psychedelic disco 12”s - picking up numerous Record of the Week plaudits on the way.

This considered curation and skill for pulling together far-flung sounds fully informs their first original material, coming via @touchsensitiverecords. These four bold and adventurous club cuts are a thrilling mix of straight-up house sounds, new beat, industrial, dub, sleaze and all the other good shit that comes with low-lighting and a heavy soundsystem.

The EP is closed by 'Gabi’ which sounds like minimal gone maximal with an insane industrial switch-up.
