The Ep closes with a Dam Swindle original for the 2018 album High Life that really needs no introduction: ‘Call of the wild feat. Jungle by Night.’ It’s a track that seems to keep the dancers happy wherever we play it and hasn’t lost any of its appeal in the past four years. Originally only released in album format, this track now makes its way on a single 12” to round off an exciting new release by the Swindles. Enjoy the music, play it loud and remember…

Italo piano house legends @don-carlos-official and @stoneinc bring their classic house fusions to @razor-n-tape with a floor-filling four-track EP, 'Montego Bay' - named after the joint alias that they coined in the early '90s.

All four tracks on this EP were also produced 30 years ago, then shelved and forgotten about until a recent connection with Razor-N-Tape inspired Don to dig up their rare vintage. Opening track 'Music All Night' is a pumping house jam pinpointing the golden era for '90s house, a classic throwback to those early days.

The 14 tracker will land via Berlin’s Toy Tonics label and glides from disco to jazz, house and funk and features key collaborations with the likes of Jitwam, Eliza Rose, Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange & his close friends. After having met Mathias Kapote Modica, creative mind behind Germany’s well respected Toy Tonics label three years ago, East London born Cody Currie understood Kapote and his international TT Crew have the perfect understanding for his talents and share the same visions and so Cody joined the TT crew and released three EPs with the German label. Now finally he steps up to present his highly anticipated debut album ‘Lucas’. The 14 track LP is set for release 21 October 2022, with a string of pre-singles to drop until then. The roots of Cody’s artistry runs deep, hailing from Leytonstone in East London by his father a fashion designer and his Spanish mother a music writer, it was inevitable that Cody would follow suit in the world of creativity. Curries keen ear and penchant for retro disco licks, chopped keys, and broken beats have landed him also with 1 off releases on other notable labels like Razor-N-Tape, Dan Shake’s Shake Records. The past few years Cody found himself in the midst of a fresh and unique buzz, taking over Europe, predominantly in Berlin and London, as he bridges the gap between jazz and house music with his energetic DJ sets, talented instrumental skills and effortless swag. Playing the big Toy Tonics Jam happening all over Europe and similar to other artists on the TT label‘connecting the dots’ between live and electronic music has garnered Cody a range of support in the press and radio world with fans including Pete Tong, Rolling Stone, Jamz Supernova, Mixmag and Gilles Peterson, with some journalists describing him as "The Tom Misch of jazzy house". This debut album, like his EPs, represents the new essence of jazz burgeoning out of London’s youth scene of today. Cody doesn't use any samples, only live instruments, vocals and great chord combinations, a nod towards his music school studies in London before moving over to Berlin. Like most of the other artists on Toy Tonics and similar to Kapote himself, Cody comes from playing jazz piano and playing in bands and combines this real musician’s attitude and knowledge with his skills as an electronic producer and extremely talented DJ/selector. This combination of background and skills create that unique sound that Cody (and many Toy Tonics artists) have. On Lucas, Cody defines his work by enjoying the collaborative process with other talented artists such as Eliza Rose and Ziggy(Freedom Zeitgeist Energy Exchange), as well as some of Cody’s close personal friends like Jitwam, Ally McMahon, Andreas Konand more. Currie comments on the album, saying:“Lucas LP is a collection of tracks which I've either done myself around the world recording in different places, or collaborating with my friends. The music reflects my enjoyment of the musical process, and I'd say it’s inspired a lot by George Duke and Frank Zappa, the disco and funkier stuff from the 70s and 80s. Spreading some urban melancholy with this ten tracker, it's Damiano von Erckert making his return to Will Saul's Aus Music label with his  album The Past The Future. After two EPs on the label in the past, namely PETE and Replica Material, and a remix for Cinthie, DvE takes things a bit further with his third long player. By latter it is meant that The Past The Future can be divided into different sound-categories, which take the listeners from club to space and back to Detroit. Retrogott - Like This (Damiano von Erckert Remix) surely aims at the floors, but has enough deepness, funk and groove to round out Damiano's conglomerate of sounds, which showcase the artist's studio skills. Everything else is for the listener to decide, however to not get involved with DvE latest work is nearly impossible since The Past The Future perfectly does what the title suggests: it brings together DvE's spaced-out sounds with electronic music's past without being out of touch with the real (club) world.

EXCLUSIVE: Damiano von Erckert - Retrogott - Like This (Damiano von Erckert Remix) [Aus Music]

St Petersberg's Dobro label is noted not just for the quality and playability of its funky house and disco re-edits, but also for its value for money. This, their seventh release, is another great example, with no less than six floorfillers included on one 12", each bringing their own individual mood to the table. 'Flowers Festival' from Sun Rhythms has throbbing organs and fruity keys, topped off by a gorgeous Russian vocal. DJ Merci's 'Timetable' goes for chunky rave pianos and Fairlight stabs, lending it an 80s Italo-disco feel, before Ground Plane Aerial's 'Transition SP' closes the side with slap bass and stripped down house vibe that echoes some of Roule Records' more accessible moments. Side two VIGI's 'I Am You', is the most memorable of the whole package, with its idiosyncratic female vocal weaving a magical spell around the listener, before we finish off with a double whammy of Monny Me's swirling stringfest 'The Name Of The Game' and the parping horns and strutting groove of Ugly Frankie's 'Free Alcohol Shit', the latter including a bewitching and unexpected piano solo. Great work all round.

People often ask why we started Soul Clap Records and I usually answer: “because we were receiving tons of unique demos by creative artists that we had to start a label.” 11 years later and that flowing faucet of incoming music is still the driving force behind the label. Sure, there is the Funk, House, Disco and multi-cultural influences in all of the music that we release, but it’s always the artists themselves who guide us. 

I will never forget the feeling of excitement when Midnight Magic (the ultimate contemporary disco band) reached out with demos for the label, a collaboration that led to incredible releases, but also a deep connection with their community of New York musicians and producers.  I still get that feeling whenever an artist that I respect or new artist brings us something fresh. It's a feeling of excitement to release the music, but more importantly, it's excitement for the endless possibilities created by building relationships with inspiring artists.

Over the years this ecosystem has also fed a mission to grow and support a local and global musical family. From the Crew Love collective that combined the vision of Soul Clap Records and Wolf + Lamb, to the Dancing On The Charles compilations that shined a light on our home town of Boston, the Italo Funk series that built a bridge with our community in Italy, and the Soul Clap Records Revue Tour, which showcased a moment when we had our deepest roots in New York City… our family continues to grow.

We’d like to acknowledge them, the artists that we have worked with over the years and who we remain deeply connected to as collaborators and friends: FSQ, Midnight Magic, Nick Monaco, Nona Hendryx, Greg Paulus, XL Middleton, Saucy Lady, Michael The Lion, Amy Douglas, Lele Sacchi, Zopelar, DJ Rocca, Funk Rimini, Zeynep Erbay, Liam Mockridge, Life On Planets, The Fitness & Pony, Chas Bronz and our fallen brothers Navid Izadi and Sa’d “The Hourchild” Ali.

2023 marks the 10th anniversary of Heist Recordings and as always, we kick off the year with our Round up where each artist of the last year remixes another artist. We’ve had an all-star cast in 2022 with Crackazat, Byron the Aquarius, Dam Swindle, Orlando Voorn, Nebraska and Makèz, so the anticipation for this year’s Round Up was huge. 

We’ve had Byron the Aquarius remix one of Dam Swindle’s ‘Keep on Swindling’ hits ‘Good Woman’ and turn that afro dancefloor monster into a typical deep and vibey affair that Byron does so well. Crackazat has taken Orlando Voorn’s wonky soul track ‘Be with you’ into a peak time summer anthem, while Nebraska has poured some of his boom-bap disco sauce on Byron the Aquarius classic spoken word song ‘Succes’ Makèz go for an uptempo version of Nebraska’s Chant des Oiseaux that lies somewhere between discofied house and gloriously upbeat tech-house. Dam Swindle take a disco-meets techno approach to Crackazat 2022 hit Demucha and Orlando Voorn turns ‘La grande folie’ by Makèz into a Midwest cosmic jazz jam.

It was in 2011 that Dutch pair Lars Dales and Maarten Smeets quickly broke through in the electronic music scene. Since then they have become known for their widescreen approach to making and playing club-ready grooves. From deep to disco, tech to soul, they join the dots between the past and the present with their own sense of storytelling and do so in clubs around the world, as well as in their own studio. House might be the root of the Dam Swindle sound, but it takes nourishment from a much wider world of music. 

It was their early, high impact tunes such as 'The Wrap Around' and 'The Break Up', that got dancers all over the world in a frenzy. Since then, the pair has constantly evolved and matured and continued to draw on all musical niches. Building bridges between them, their  landmark 2018 album High Life or their ‘Coffee in the Morning EP' both furthered their take on house music with a real sense of timelessness and class.

Since 2013, the pair has also established their own Heist Recordings as a well respected label that is home to the majority of their own originals, though other underground mainstays such as Aus Music and Classic Music Company have also come calling. Heist is more than just a label, though - it is a breeding ground for talents old and new; somewhere talent is nurtured and allowed to develop.  Label showcases and special projects such as the yearly Roundup EP;  where all artists from the past 12 months remix each other after a random selection process, furthers the family vibe and helps Heist stand out from crowd. Artists such as Nebraska, Adryiano, Kassian, Demuir, Makez, Max Graef, Pépé Bradock, Nachtbraker, Matthew Herbert, Ge-Ology, Byron the Aquarius and many more have all contributed, proving that it is a place for unrestrained creatives to be free with their own sonic visions. The label looks as good as it sounds, too, thanks to visual artist Bas Koopmans's standout artwork designs. 
 
Proof of Dam Swindle's widescreen approach to production is their long and talented list of collaborators, which includes the likes of acclaimed musician, Eric Clapton and John Mayer collaborator and Blue Note artist Tom Misch, US talent Seven Davis Jr., instrumental collective Jungle by Night, plus Marc de Clive-Lowe, Jitwam and Lorenz Rhode. Next to their own originals, a broad spectrum of artists have asked Dam Swindle for some of their special remix magic: on labels like Strut and Soundway they have reworked the legendary Pat Thomas, aka the ‘Golden voice of Africa,' and gave his single ‘Yamona’ a contemporary electronic edge, as well as The Mauskovic Dance Band’s track ‘Space Drum Machine’ and plenty more artists like Kerri Chandler, Mayer Hawthorne and Tom Misch. As their talent for bridging genres from all over the world continues to attract global attention, high profile projects keep rolling in from all points on the musical globe. 

Dam Swindle are famously avid collectors of both old and new records, and it shows in their DJ sets, which keep you on your toes as they move freely and skillfully through different times, places and sounds. Rather than limiting themselves to a certain feeling or mood, Dam Swindle can call on classic house, obscure disco, African funk, soulful techno and plenty in between, all with the aim of making those special moments that crowds never forget. It is for that reason that their name has become a real stamp of authority and invention in the dance music world. Whatever they do, then, this pair do with irresistible charm.
