Premiere: Axel Boman 'New Krau Era'

Diynamic and mobilee have always been close, and last year celebrated together in style on the rooftop of the Hotel Diagonal in Barcelona during Sonar 2010 with all the leading artists on board, including Diynamic's H.O.S.H who's next up on the ever diversifying Leena Music catalogue!

Starting to release back in 2006, Holger Behn - the man behind the four well renowned letters - already has an impressive catalogue with EPs on labels including Get Physical, Kindisch, Supernature, Freerange, Strictly Rhythm, Dessous, Tsuba and of course his home label, as well as his debut LP 'Connecting The Dots' on Diynamic which came out last year.

His new EP, 'Tour De Fonque', fits perfectly in a peak time dance floor set, with strong basslines and in the case of the A-side track 'Dead And Alive' a twisted and eery vocal that's demanding "to know what it is". Meanwhile B-side 'Tour De Fonque' is built on a deep and driving groove that's impossible to ignore or stay still too. Keep it spinning and enjoy!

After the extensive “Uncanny Valley 20” compilation we go back to our classic 4- track-format for “Uncanny Valley 025”. Taking the chance to introduce 3 new artists to our roster, we warmly welcome Lake People, Philipp Triebel and RJ (who is also one half of Dürerstuben) to add their distinctive flavour to this record.

Lake People doesn’t need an introduction anymore as his smart and emotional productions are making rounds from Ibiza to your basement club around the corner. His “Unexpected End Of Archive” is another example for his knack to produce tracks that evokes an emotional maelstrom on the dance floor. Beautiful synth melodies are meandering throughout the tune while the slick drum arrangement provides just enough tension to keep your feet on the floor.

Philipp Triebel caught our ear with his live set when we played together at a party in his hometown Giessen. After handing in demos for some time he now contributes “Unity” to this compilation. Clocking in at just 4 and a half minutes it gets us moving with tight chords, tricky drums and a short but prominent synth melody that will be heavy on the dance floor.

The B-side features two tracks by RJ, a member of the 2014 edition of RBMA in Tokyo. “Leo” is an excellent piece of slowly rising House music that pushes the right buttons at just the right time. With melancholic robots on vocals duties and dreamy synth pads this track literally tells a story. Closing the record is “Nie” which rises the pace and takes a similar path like its predecessor with moony synths and a very catchy melody.

As always with the Various Artists EPs on Uncanny Valley, the artwork is by courtesy of illustrator Paul Waak, this time with a fresh new approach.

Awarded the title of DJ Mag’s ‘Breakthrough DJ’ in 2013, Citizenn has won favour across multiple disciplines for his retro-futurist style. A film director in a former life, his affinity with working with technology led him to this first album, inspired by the direction it was taking humanity.
 
“I wanted to explore this idea of humanity infusing with technology, we have become completely dependent upon it to survive,’ explains Laurence AKA Citizenn, ‘The western world's obsession with augmenting our natural abilities runs deeper than moving things quickly or getting us into space, it allows us to manifest complex ideas and emotions in an artistic context. Each track on the record is based on a particular theme of human emotion or technological/mechanical attribute, and it's relation to the world of electronic music. I've dug deep to conceptualise each track to this format and attempted to create a journey through my influences, both musical and cinematically.”
 
The title track cracks the album into a dystopian tone, before tracks like ‘Infatuation’, ‘Control’ and ‘Gone’ welcome in warmth with R&B-tinted smooth vocals, layered over textured beats that sit safe with artists such as Scuba and James Blake. As the record progresses, Citizenn’s recognisable sci-fi house synths and effortlessly approachable classic beats surface in first single, ‘Tied’, and tracks including ‘Lacefront’ and ‘Shutters’ take a bow to the ground-breaking sounds of the late eighties and early nineties. 
 
Honest and rapid moments allude to a future vision in ‘Oh Bongdage’ and ‘You Are’ as the record edges forward to its conclusion, whilst vocal slices delivering subliminal messages are a constant throughout. “Aisha has one of the most amazing thinking minds I know. She and I came up with multiple scenarios and ways of expressing them through her vocal contributions. I also worked with a vocalist called Py, another great mind and voice who is instantly cinematic and can evoke so many different feelings with her tones.” 
 
Starting his musical life as a drummer, Laurence Blake’s Citizen alias didn’t come into play until after a successful career in video directing, working with the likes of Aluna George and Little Boots. “With film and the visual arts I was able to present impossible scenarios and environments, narrative-led or pop-culture heavy responses to subject matter. The music, which came later has allowed me to go one step further than I ever was able to with film.”
 
The whole record is visual, creating a vivid landscape that only an artist familiar with the details of more than one creative medium could deliver, with themes and textures that use both digital and analogue synthesis, and human oral and physical input. “The first versions of the record almost had no gaps or pauses at all, like some kind of blackish grey tapestry. Over the course of this path I began to understand the music I was making more, where these ideas were coming from and how I was applying it to the original concept and learned that nothing in life is linear/binary, even technology deviates from it's programmed functionality.” 
 
“It's been an affirming process and I have grown and allowed myself to be truly personal with the machines I use. In essence: the original concept of the record has become a self-fulfilling journey of self awareness and ownership.”

Tiga readies the next EP on Twin Turbo and in doing so exultantly welcomes Belfast’s Jordan into the fold.

Having released records on Extended Play, Made Fresh Daily and Derrick Carter and Luke Solomon’s Classic Music Company - Jordan joins the Turbo ranks with ‘Coup De Grace’: a classically minded 3-tracker that comes inclusive of a remix from Leeds producer Zia.

Jordan has been instrumental in propelling Northern Ireland’s blossoming Electronic music scene through promotion and DJing and is certainly no stranger to big crowds. Over a decade of experience behind the decks supporting the likes of Carl Craig, Paul Woolford and Ryan Elliot is certainly translated into his productions as ‘Coup De Grace’ shines with capacious synths and long, fervent breakdowns that remain propelled by his neatly structured grooves.

The title track kicks off with a bold, thudding drums that immediately sit it comfortably with Twin Turbo. Swooning synth lines are pitted against rattling percussion before Pleasure Centre lays out a hypnotic and tightly wound tone throughout. Zia then galvanises the title track and drives overdriven drums through sweeping synths that cap off another coup for Twin Turbo.

Rørschach comes fresh to 18-09 with their techno infused debut track, Submissive Thoughts.

Original mix is a stratight up tech track, reverbed haunting vox, big kick drums, solid percussion, piercing hats - all elements that are the standard for a good techno track. Play this one loud, it is sure to rattle the speakers!

Acid AJ returns once again to the label on the remix after the success of his previous track, I Don't Know. Acid AJ picks up the pace of the track with his tech house spin on the original mix and would work well in both tech house and warm up techno sets.

With features on BBC Introdcing and releases on Hypnohouse and Twisted Recordings, WLSN comes with a top pedigree and provides an excellent Acid Techno take on the original. That acid bassline weaves around the other elements within the track to provide a hypnotic sound that pulls you in for more.
