Business As Usual August 2019: Luke Solomon + Special Guest Dan Shake

The boys of Radial Gaze, a spicy electronic project based in St. Petersburg, Russia, make their debut on the outstanding label ESTHÉTIQUE RECORDS. Their sonority flirts with live percussions and native vocals, and the result is a colourful and enticing combination of their different and mutual influences.

"We tried to convey the complexity of the soundscape that surrounds us every day but made it so simple that you can catch this scale looking at the sun in the neck of an empty bottle", said the lads themselves to describe "Sui Generis Nomen", the track we chose to premiere, whose main characteristic is the large infusion of oriental elements.

The thumping atmosphere the tune inflicts through its lively percussion and shamanic aura is probably going to take you to hidden places in your mind. The trip established by the trance mood tends to be agitated, though. It will be hard merely to close your eyes and enjoy the tour, because "Sui Generis Nomen" is not intended to create this kind of reaction. Its goal is to make you reach a level of reverie that is only achieved through dancing and sweating hard.

Berlin-based artist Per Hammar touches down on London's Planetary Notions imprint to supply his cosmic and bubbling house roller 'Short Waves' to the label's lates various artists EP 'PN006'. 

For the past decade, Per Hammar's been a reliable source for entrancing stripped-back dancefloor material. Now his latest offering proves he's never short of delivering pure magic, as 'Short Waves' "transports the listener into outer space with its square bass-line, cosmic tones and intricate pad work."

In this third chapter of the BROT series, they wrap up the trilogy from the Reykjavík based producer Felix Leifur, who has genuinely showcased his incredible set of production skills throughout the year.

These last five BROT tracks move the sound to another spectrum where Felix plays around with his traditional sound. But this time the tempo is high, and the strong influences from old school breakbeat and jungle shine through. Felix's BROT 03 ties up the first BROT series with flair and this one will surely not be the last one.

For his debut EP new label signing Ross Robertson https://soundcloud.com/rossrobertson has brought together far-reaching influences and produced a personal, homegrown sound. His tightly crafted production style takes listeners on a fluid journey through natural and obscure samples taken from his favourite films and travels. Complex soundscapes immerse listeners in a sonically rich world.

‘Quentin’s Legacy’ is a blissed-out two-step affair, that takes us to a vibrant jungle of rhythmic playfulness and textural intricacies, meshing vibraphonic melodies, pastel-hued pads and buoyant Rhodes stabs through an organic synergy of sorts.

Soulful and hypnotic to the full, ‘Eryka’ has us gliding in a minimal, cabaret jazz-indebted nighttime scenario where ripples of FX-laden guitar riffs and liquid piano chords merge to form a languid city-loners’ sound narrative akin to that of a Hopper painting.

On ’She’s A Spy’, Robertson extrapolates his dubby explorations to further electroid territories beautifully, maintaining a fine balance between woozy melodicism and pulsating power throughout to deliver a strikingly subtle hybrid of retro-futuristic electronics.

Expanding into further kaleidoscopic horizons, title-cut ‘Ukiyo’ vectors us to a lushly forested, mystique-shrouded realm; swinging the pendulum betwixt traditional Japanese music tropes, future-facing bass and sun-washed electronica on a tribal tip.
