"Houses in Motion" is a new australian label based in Melbourne and they drop their first compilation EP featuring a range of tracks from label friends new and forever. A. M. Limonata returns with "Siren", an atmospheric, crisp track, reminiscent of days spent sun-drenched on dancefloors. Roy Blues makes his debut on HIM with "Pyramid" premiered here, a euphoric slow burner . On the flip, daddy boy Oliver Francis takes the limelight with "How High", a funky, crunchy beast that will take you for a ride through space and time. The inappropriately named closer "Setting Pace", another by Oliver, rounds out the record; a bright yet melancholy disco track featuring reverbial guitars of the mysterious Deep Zoo.

One  year  only  after  the  release  of  his  debut  EP  Déclaration  Préalable  à  l’Embauche,  Tour-Maubourg  quickly  became  one    of  the  most  promising  producers  of  the  French  house  scene  thanks  to  its  music  full  of  melancholic  and  nostalgic  jazzy  house sounds.  After  some  other  releases,  including  EPs  signed  on  FHUO  -  the  label  of  the  no  less  famous  Folamour  -  and  on  the  English  label  FINA  thanks  to  which  he  has  gained  the  support  of  many  artists  such  as  Laurent  Garnier,  Todd  Edwards,  Moomin  or  Osunlade  to  name  a  few,  the  Parisian  producer  is  back  with  a  new  5  tracker  Solitude  Collective.  It  begins  with  “Artifice”,  the  most  lyrical  track  of  this  new  maxi,  which  sounds  as  sweet  as  an  Indian  summer.  “Solitude  Collective”,  the  eponymous  track  of  the  EP,  consists  of  a  single  piano  loop  that  resonates  like  a  scream,  surrounded  by  a  groovy  and  sharp  rhythmic  part.  “Hold  Me”  presents  a  deeply  romantic  track  with  a  sensual  and  funky  bassline  and  vocal  part.  “Albatros”  stands  out  from  the  EP  as  a  contemplative  track,  at  first  dark  and  wobbly,  and  finally  leading  the  listener  to  a  feeling  of  lightness.  Finally,  “1984”  comes  to  end  this  new  maxi  with  a  closing  as  smooth  as  cold,  like  a  slight  manifest  of  love  and  criticism.

The music of Genius of Time has always been defined by a certain elegance and grace. Finding new ways into and out of the labyrinth that some people call (deep) house, one the Swedish duo’s inner strength is the uncanny ability to create tension, sustaining and playing with it, before rewarding the listener (or dancer) with a fulminating mirror ball. Same goes for their treatment of percussive elements. 
„Peace Bird“, the opener of GOT’s EP of the same name, is a prime-example of that technique: a tight build-up and an intricate breakdown lead to heavily strings and foolproof floor finesse. Coming along with „Smiling Into Eternity“ that mellows you down easy as well as the club ready  „Rymd01“, the whole thing is a more than worthy successor to GOT’s first EP for Running Back almost five years ago. Niceness unlimited. Nerd facts: most of the elements of these three tracks here were recorded live and then mixed down on a reel to reel. No safety net, no double bottom!  Genius of time and genius of love.

This is ostensibly a post in promotion of a hot new release. The record in question is from Berlin-via-Australia house veteran Jad & The (formerly of the problematic moniker Jad & The Ladyboy). It comes via reliable London wax purveyor SlothBoogie, and is, from top-to-bottom, a well-crafted collection of moody deep house fit for early summer sessions on the Spree. 

But the track in question here, in particular, is the release’s A2 remix, courtesy of Istanbul’s Aleksandir. And if you don’t remember that name, now would be a good time to take note.

Operating within the somewhat niche, online-oriented sector of club music that we follow, Aleksandir has been releasing music for a few years, but really hit new heights in 2018 on the strength of his track “Yamaha”. Simply put: the thing was a straightaway hit. The Youtube page accrued 4 million hits, and, like Pepe Braddock’s “Deep Burnt” before it, the video is now integrated into your “Up Next” stream pretty much any time you click on any video related to modern dance music. 

That success has landed Aleksandir plays on BBC, and accrued him an online following that includes over 60,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. 

Because you are probably friends with him on Facebook and have possibly talked with him a bit, you might be inclined to seeing his success as quaint or as just the well-deserved applause that can accompany a well-timed release (a fluke, really, you might tell yourself). 

True, there is certainly a measure of fortune involved with achieving status in an industry as online-oriented as this one; in an industry where algorithms and playlist supervisors can lucrative booking schedules; in an industry where trends happen in a nanosecond, whereafter they are summarily critiqued, admonished, and meme’d. 

But we should make no mistake: out of all the young producers cranking away on their laptops at 3am every night, from Tbilsi to Tokyo and back, Aleksandir might in time rise above the lot of them. He might just achieve a rare and indelible status in the world of so-called underground music: that of being remembered.
