Anjunadeep is excited to welcome back Moon Boots (Pete Dougherty) for his playful new single ‘Come Back Around’ - the first taste of a third studio album rumoured for an early 2023 release.

A collaboration with lead vocalist Clementine Creevy of LA rock band Cherry Glazerr, ‘Come Back Around’ tells the story of a nostalgic lover playfully calling their crush back to them. A winning combination of funked-out melodies, fast-paced breaks, and Creevy’s cheeky vocal, ‘Come Back Around’ signals a strong return for Moon Boots to Anjunadeep following two exceptional albums - Bimini Road and First Landing - which have accrued over 101 million streams. In an unlikely yet colourful collaboration, Creevy electrifies Dougherty’s arrangement, resulting in a catchy single that straddles the worlds of pop, indie, and dance. On the collab, Dougherty says:

“I got in touch with Clem after hearing her on tracks with Cherry Glazerr and I was immediately drawn to her voice - she has these amazing, gentle melodies, but sings them with a rawness that grabs you. We got together late last Spring when she happened to be in NYC, and we wrote the song in 2 creative sessions. This is the mark of the next musical chapter for me and I hope everyone enjoys it!"

Championed by the likes of Annie Mac, Diplo, Danny Howard, and The Blessed Madonna, Moon Boots has established himself as a trailblazer of R&B-infused dance music. Having remixed the likes of Dua Lipa, Robyn, and Nile Rodgers, Dougherty’s production prowess is in high demand, whilst his eclectic DJ sets and live shows (including a full live band) have seen him tour the world, with recent headline shows sold out across North America and Australia.

Moon Boots’ latest with Cherry Glazerr demonstrates his capacity to experiment and have fun. The LA-based rock band has seen great success on the indie circuit, being championed by Pitchfork, NME, Rolling Stone, The Guardian, and DIY magazine, and most recently supporting Alt J, Portugal. The Man and Jack White on their North American Tours. 

The single is accompanied with a lively music video filmed at Coney Island, featuring Dougherty and Creevy. Directed by Kenneth Bachor, the video is colourful and carefree, embodying the track’s flirtatious nature. On the collaboration and music video, lead singer Clem said:

“Pete cracks me up. He’s such a funny dude and I really love how he made this song so uplifting, and yet groovy and soulful at the same time. He has a vibrant spirit. We went to Coney Island to shoot the video and it was my first time there, so I was dancing like a little crazy woman just galavanting around the boardwalk blasting our song. My favourite moment was Ken, Pete and I squeezing ourselves into the teacups ride for the last shot- three grown adults in the tea cups were kind of insane but beautiful.”

’Ride Away' is the titular single from Moon Boots’ upcoming album ‘Ride Away', out March 17 on independent label Anjunadeep. Out January 13, the single features longtime collaborator Steven Klavier. A multifaceted songwriter, producer and vocalist, Klavier paired up with Moon Boots on the effervescent 2019 single ’Tied Up’, and 2022’s ‘Come Back Around’ with Cherry Glazerr.

Effervescent and funky in true Moon Boots style, ‘Ride Away' follows last year’s ’Take Me To Your Body’ with Nic Hanson, ‘Hot Minute’ with Black Gatsby, and ‘Come Back Around’ with indie darling Cherry Glazerr. The singles have seen extensive support on KCRW and SiriusXM, with ‘Come Back Around' named ‘Coldest Record’ on BBC Radio 1.

The album ‘Ride Away’ follows in the footsteps of Moon Boots’s debut ‘First Landing’ (2017) and sophomore album ‘Bimini Road’ (2019). With an impressive catalogue atypical of the dance world, Dougherty’s third album represents both his tenacity and evolution as a producer and songwriter. The writing process was met with many difficult but rewarding experiences; creative bursts were balanced with instances of anxiety and self-doubt, yet Dougherty found the music writing process invigorating and cites his wife’s continual support and incoming firstborn daughter as encouraging him to move forward. Of course, more time in the studio allowed Dougherty to experiment with new creative processes (and mind-altering methods) over the course of the album’s formation:

“Creating my new album Ride Away helped keep me going through unsteady times and joyous times. This album is about love and connection and being there for each other. My intention is for people to feel free when they hear this album, to get recharged, to be stimulated by something they’ve never heard before.”

Featuring a swathe of colourful vocalists including the likes of Cherry Glazerr, Dope Earth Alien, and Nic Hanson, ‘Ride Away’ celebrates Dougherty’s longstanding affinity for collaboration, fun effervescent songwriting, and dance-focused production. Other international artists on the album include French singer Praa and Norwegian band Ora The Molecule, whilst longtime collaborators Ross Clark (St. Lucia) and Steven Klavier feature as writers and instrumentalists on the record, rounding out a global ensemble of incredible talent.

Moon Boots’ ‘Come Back Around’, featuring Cherry Glazerr, receives two remixes from Romain Garcia and Liam Fitzgerald. ‘Come Back Around’ is taken from Moon Boots’ recently released third studio album ‘Ride Away’, and has accumulated over 1.5million streams across DSPs so far, as well racking up 94 spins on SiriusXM after being playlisted on ‘Diplo’s Revolution’ and ‘BPM’. The track features the vocals of Clementine Creevy of Cherry Glazerr, a rock band championed by Pitchfork, NME and Rolling Stone to name a few.

Following his 2020 debut release, ‘Cappadocia’, a collaboration with Ben Böhmer on Cercle Records, which has accrued over 17million streams on Spotify alone, Romain Garcia has confirmed he’s “one of the key names in the current melodic house scene” (DJ Mag). Romain has released two EPs via Anjunadeep since then that have received widespread support including from BBC Radio 1, Kiss FM and SiriusXM, on which lead single ‘Before You Go’ was one of the most played tracks of 2022. His remix of ‘Come Back Around’ sees his trademark uplifting synths recontextualise Creevy’s vocals as a melodic house anthem.

The new package unites this remix with a fresh take on ‘Come Back Around’ from Mexican born and raised DJ and producer Liam Fitzgerald, who offers up a uniquely dubbed-out and percussion-laden medley.‘Come Back Around (The Remixes)’ is out May 5 on Anjunadeep.

A master of cooking up hearty servings of feel-good dance music, the Brooklyn-based, Chicago-trained artist Moon Boots brings a whole new element of sound into his production with his mystical tune 'Keramas', set for release via Anjunadeep as a double a-side with ‘Harpanet’. 

Drawing inspiration from his world travels, the track shows us how Moon Boots takes musical cues from the various environments he finds himself in.

"The basis for “Keramas' was a field recording I made when I had a couple days off in Bali during an Asian tour last summer“ Moon Boots tells Mixmag. “I was staying at a hotel on Keramas beach and heard these beautiful voices coming from off in the distance. Different women were taking turns on the mic singing beautiful melodies and a male preacher would also jump in with these strange hypnotic fragments. This was all blasting on a beat up loudspeaker so I was able to record it from outside the temple. The things that sound like sitars are just the singer’s voice sampled in short bits, and the bells are like my rough homage to gamelan. 
 
"People think of Bali as this incredible place to take a vacation, do some yoga, get in touch with nature, and all of that, but it also has this incredible musical culture that sometimes gets overlooked. When I recorded it I wasn’t planning on turning it into a track, I just wanted to have an interesting recording from the trip, something I could listen to and plant me back to that place and time.” 

Moon Boots joined Mixmag, AKG and a team of exceptional producers for a wholly unique electronic music retreat in forests of Woodstock, New York. With an emphasis on seclusion and artistic solidarity, Pete hit the studio to explore new sounds and reflect on how electronic music has altered his creative output forever.
