This fall, Detroit techno icons Octave One serve up the third volume of their Locus of Control EP series. The two-track offering again explores the ‘power or powerlessness people feel over the things that shape their world,’ and never has that been more true than during the last 18 months of the pandemic.
It has almost been two years since the release of the last installment. Of course, the pandemic largely explains that delay, but that doesn’t mean the celebrated Burden Brothers haven’t stayed busy in other ways. Already in 2021, they have served up their Reworks and Whatever She Wants EPs, and have also revived their more introspective 90s alias Neveron Sunday for a new EP later in 2021. More than 25 years after first starting out, they continue to shapethe modern techno landscape with their famous analogue approach, as this new EP proves.
It opens with the superb ‘Shameless,’ a heavily percussive yet elastic track that bangs from thestart. The bassline is dark and menacing but also has a subtle sense of techno funk. Once the pixelated chords arrive, the track is doused in a cosmic energy that will take dance floors to the next level. Then comes ‘School of Seven Bells’, a straight-up seven-minute techno workout laden with rich layers of synth and a baseline full of suspense. It immediately gets you on your toes and the ever-evolving pads and loopy drums ensure maximum impact throughout.
These are two more thought-provoking, body-shaking tracks from techno’s finest.

Italian duo Subradeon team up with Radio Slave’s Rekids to deliver four illuminating cuts entitled ‘Walking Through Motown EP’.

Beginning their musical journey in Southern Italy over a decade ago, the now Berlin-based duo Subradeon have been building steady momentum by releasing a handful of EPs on Detroit’s Motech Records, trau-ma and their own Subradeon Records label. Gradually honing their soulful productions with an emphasis on
Detroit techno – the duo quickly caught the attention of Rekids label boss Radio Slave. They now join the reputable Berlin imprint with ‘Walking Through Motown EP’, closing the label’s 2018 to follow lauded releases from Sebo K, Markus Suckut, P.Leone, SRVD, Nocow, and many more accomplished names.

‘Walking Through Motown (Part 1)’ is an uplifting track with mesmerising leads and swirling synths combining to create ethereal atmospheres before ‘Walking Through Motown (Part 2) offers beautifully resonating kicks, undulating chord progression and melodious synth flutters. On the flip, ‘The Law Is Spiritual’ maintains the symphonious spectacle balancing inspiriting vocals, rattling percussion and a weighty bassline whilst ‘We Will Still Resist’ employs fluid drums, looping piano keys and euphoric elements to finish.

Detroit native turned Berghain resident Ryan Elliot debuts on his brand new imprint Faith Beat with his appropriately named EP 'The Introduction' - set to drop on July 19.

"Now it's time for me to have my own label/baby," says Elliot. "To release the music I want to whether it be from other artists I know and respect, or to give an opportunity to rising artists. I feel a strong need to do my own thing and to contribute now. And in a lot of ways, I feel like it’s a new chapter for me as an artist. Me becoming more of a producer and now a label owner, not just a DJ."

Ahead of the release, Elliot has handed over the EP cut 'Climb The Ladder' - a perceptive, scrupulous and profoundly mechanical banger that held together by ironclad drum work that turns the tune into a club tool of the highest order.
