Todd Terry Shan & Gerd Janson Edits Part II (FREEZE 1306) - PREVIEW

Alex Warren, AKA Kiwi, debuts on Futureboogie for the label’s closing release of the year.  With previous releases on labels like Optimo Music, Blasé Boys Club and Sneaky Music, the versatile producer serves up four tracks of deep and driving underground goodies.

The London based producer/DJ has genre hopped with ease over the last few years, building up an impressive arsenal of productions and remixes.  He has been called upon to reshape for artists like The Klaxons, Duke Dumont and Bonar Bradberry, and his music has been warmly received and supported by Andrew Weatherall, Daniel Avery, Erol Alkan and many more.

On his Futureboogie release, Kiwi blends energetic Italo styles on lead track ‘Orca’, whilst ‘Minke’ fuses gnarly technoid house with deft melodies and soft touches.  The spatial synths of ‘Logman’s Break’ create a highly infectious earworm of a track and the brass melodies freestyle over a sturdy production, whilst the closing ‘Pygmy’ gets spaced out with tweaking acid bass and moon stomping beats.

Straight out of Sligo, Ireland, Brame & Hamo have expertly produced some of the most effortless house music of the last few years. Following acclaimed releases on labels such as Dirt Crew and Heist, the duo now take full control with their debut release on a fresh, personal imprint, simply titled ‘Brame & Hamo’. 
B&H001, ‘Trants’, is a versatile three-tracker that expertly captures the light and shade of the duo’s production pallette. Opening the EP, title-track ‘Trants’ (say it aloud to trace the inspiration), provides a hugely satisfying denouement. Awash in a retro-futurist haze, flavours of early bleep techno, dusty drums and yes, outright trance flavours provide the ingredients for a euphoria-inducing trip that culminates in a melodic call to arms-in-the-air. Things get much tougher throughout ‘Hurt You’, which begins with an immediate strike of chunky percussion, jacking Chi-town rhythms and an unapologetically menacing organ line. As the requisite vocal sample delivers emotive threat, the mood only gets darker still, delivering something akin to an outsider house rendition of a lost Dance Mania cut. Finally, providing a soft landing with an early-doors on-the-floor heater, ‘Clarence’ lives up to it’s ‘Smooth Mix’ subtitle, as a lounging piano line gently gives way to vibrant sax and a soothing female vocal sample, while still maintaining a precise and irresistible groove for the club. Expanding seamlessly on their reputation as DJs and producers with an instinctive understanding of the genre, B&H001 is as soulful, tough and deeply satisfying of a house record as anything in Brame & Hamo’s already impressive musical repertoire. Indeed, here’s your Trants, now dance!

Fine label co-founder Tilman continues to deliver infectious and soulful house cuts with his latest venture landing on Inhale Exhale Germany via a split EP with Kevin Over aptly titled 'Split'. Here Tilman unveils more of his expert skill and creativity using samples by producing a gripping house cut titled 'FFYS' that prompts a sense of nostalgia with a lush melody over a steady house beat. It's this unique approach that has Tilman's catalogue of releases on fire in recent history and he's proving to be at the top of his game once again. 

The 'Split' EP, featuring three tracks from both Kevin Over and Tilman, is out soon.

The history of Sai Ying Pun long began in the mid-19th century when the British military first landed and set up their camps in the area before the colonial era which in turn boosted the development of the neighbourhood, and the name Sai Ying Pun literally means ‘western camps’.

On duty for this release we have three French artists, Reba, Romain FX & Sanpé, that have embraced the Hong Kong experience in their life at different times.
The first track is a heavy hitter from Reba that takes a very UK/Dancehall approach with dry drum machine sounds and a catchy repeated vocal throughout the track, dance floor killer guaranteed. The second track is jumping dance floor guaranteed with a more groovy house track from Romain FX, incorporating chops throughout with deep bass line breaks and dreamy house chords to then get lifted off into the air. And finally to close off the EP with have Sanpé with a very minimal gloomy approach, keeping the deep house vibes we like with subtle touches of raw goodness throughout.

It's number six for Tessellate and this time they're shining the spotlight on France's Xavier Dusclaux AKA Armless Kid. After a number impressive outings on the likes of Rekids, Let's Play House and Traxx Underground, Xavier turns to the London based label with three original tracks plus a remix of the A1.

Category, which features MJOG (Daydream/Recordeep), combines shuffling percussion over wiggling basslines. You’re in a dreamscape scenario, not for the first time, definitely not for the last time. Floating, weightless and without a care in the world, the passage is opening in front of you to pure light, slightly out of focus though – one must concentrate if you want to gain access. The techy, expressive synth pans and guides you, focus on that, it’s for the best.
