黑芝麻 (Hēi zhī ma) invites you to retreat inwards - on both the physical plane and within the depths of your psyche - as part of the Pure Space Home Listening series.

Imagined during lockdown, Pure Space Home Listening // 黑芝麻和朋友们 (Hēi zhī ma and friends) probes home listening in the context of isolation.

As an artist, 黑芝麻 leans into the more emotive facets of sound, utilizing sonic and cerebral contrasts to subtly lull the listener into a journey unforeseen. This release sees them infuse this approach within their collaborations with artists Merph, Shoeb Ahmad, Moktar and Zhi.

The artists explore the familiar feelings of solitude, urgency and release firmly etched into our collective consciousness, both synchronously and through their own distinct lens.

“I Miss You” lulls you in with emotive pads that float above a sharp breakbeat and voice notes engulfed with longing. “Take Me Anywhere” provides a feeling of relief, as groove-laden techno bounces off the walls and into the abyss. “Associations” is an introspective, spacious and haunting track you want to float on and on. As you glide between these offerings, the intro and outro tracks hold space for tender ruminations.

The release serves as an archive of a more contemplative and confined period, through the distant murmur of voice notes, the metamorphosing drone of ambient soundscapes, poetic reveries that hang in the air, the rattling percussion of a breakbeat or techno high-hat and the gentle backdrop hums of nature.

This is an immersive audiovisual experience. Filmmaker Jane Inyang reimagines the EP in a short film through different listening contexts during a day in isolation for the protagonist. This short film will be accessible by a QR code in an accompanying poster and zine, which will also feature artist photos, recipes and poetry alongside the work of artist Jacquie Meng and photographer Chanel Nguyen. There will also be a limited run of earrings by Joanne Leong.

100% of profits from this release will be donated to Firesticks Alliance, an Indigenous led network and aims to re-invigorate the use of cultural burning by facilitating cultural learning pathways to fire and land management.

The capsule also launches Amniote Editions’ return to graphic design studio Alexis Mark, who were part of the birthing of the platform and now presents their first cover design as a multilayer 12” gift - a record wrapped in a beautiful poster protected by a limited edition screen printed PVC sleeve.

It is our pleasure to announce an exciting collaboration born out of the resounding success of UMAY and BASHKKA's iconic EP, "Maktub." Together, we are thrilled to unveil the culmination of BASHKKA's initial vision: the release of a meticulously crafted vinyl edition, complete with fresh and iconic remixes courtesy of some of her closest comrades and confidants.

Ever since its electrifying debut in February, "Maktub'' and its mesmerizing title track, 'Act Bad,' have set dance floors ablaze across the globe. This explosive track earned the esteemed title of Top Summer Hit from Germany's venerable Groove Magazine, leaving us with no choice but to bestow upon it the grand physical manifestation it so rightly deserves. This offering is tailor-made for the discerning vinyl aficionados, dedicated collectors, and music connoisseurs who have fervently championed both this release and the incomparable talent of BASHKKA throughout the year. Graciously funded by the generous support of Initiative Musik, we have not only breathed life into this iconic release but have also empowered BASHKKA to co-direct her very first music video, in collaboration with the visionary director Valentin Noujaim, based in Copenhagen.

Next up on summerpup is the debut release and full-length album from Berlin-based artist xupid. Tripped out diverse techno-bass hybrids, cuts and grooves. 

xupid and I first met in Berlin in 2013 and have been exchanging tracks ever since, many of which have been my secret dj weapons over the years. I'm really happy to share these with you now, as xupid's first full release. 

The album is released on 2x12" Vinyl with a beautiful printed sleeve. The silver pieces depicting 'xupid' on the cover and inner labels are individual pieces of silver jewelry metalwork, each designed, handcrafted and photographed by NYC-based artist Sam Shin.
