For ec2a’s Digital-Only Series, Bristol’s bass buccaneers Dual Monitor continue their run of tech-dembow monsters that have the chilling atmosphere and venomous mechanics of a sci-fi horror flick. The sounds on “Rise Up” are techy, gelatinous and they deploy circular hits of atmosphere as coldly as Darth Vader’s breath. But when it wheelspins from a breaks intro to their signature bounce, it’s all systems go. You’ll latch onto the tune of clanging metal from the moment it reaches your ear, right through to the track’s airtight final drop, which squeezes wiping bass into the mix. Wear a gas mask to the dance, but you’ll still succumb to their dark, contagious swing.

Main Phase - Little By Little

Revered London-based label Well Street Records has tapped Gadigal Land/Sydney-based producer LEVOS for their latest release, his EP, 'Burnout'. The label has become a staple for listeners and DJs alike, verging into the often more broken side of beat.

LEVOS' EP is no different, with the local delivering on the wonkiness one can tend to find on Well Street. 

'Focus', premiered here, is a crisp, slightly rude & very uplifting UKG romp. The wonk is all here, and a huge testament to the drive and skill of a blossoming local producer.

Of the release, LEVOS shared:

"Growing up in the bush in Australia, I'm always approaching music from the perspective of an outsider. I think a lot of Australian music has this real blissed out feeling to it, which I guess comes from being connected to our unique landscape and natural beauty. I naturally find myself falling into this zone too and making music (especially dance music) in Australia means that we need to embrace what we have here, rather than trying to find all our sounds from elsewhere."

'Burnout' releases via Well Street Records' Bandcamp on Friday, August 22.

PREMIERE: LEVOS - 'Focus' [Well Street Records]

Dayshift co-founder and Chinese Laundry resident Bouki is on the cusp of releasing his long-awaited debut EP 'Studio 5'. Featuring a series of five tracks proudly written and mastered in Gadigal Land/Sydney's Rikota Studios. The EP is a clear and confident ode to the context in which it was written, featuring the studio's monitors by local audiophiles Translate Audio, and in Rikota's own colour scheme.

'Flow', premiered here, is a large and bumping collaboration with Naarm/Melbourne-based producer Trustee. Punchy 808s are matched with a wobbling bassline paying homage to Bouki's UK heritage.

Of the track, Bouki shared:

“We’ve made a few tunes together now and had initially intended to put another one on the EP, but 'Flow' came together very naturally during two sessions when Tate was up visiting last month and is our favourite track we’ve made together so far.”

Bouki performs this Saturday, September 6 at Chinese Laundry to launch the EP alongside Trustee, Bella Bella and fellow resident Obeido.

'Studio 5' is set to release with a new single every fortnight, until it drops in full on Friday, October 31.
