Shit - Clase Media Trabajadora [Richmerch]

After an initial link up last summer, Altrimenti Records present four more remixes of cult Italian synth maestros Cabaret Du Ciel. Once again the focus is on experimentation, testing unusual crossovers between artists, eras and styles in pursuit of compelling new sounds.

Cabaret Du Ciel were founded in 1986 and have left a fascinating breadcrumb trail of beautifully sculpted electronic music behind them, culminating last year with their first album in over 20 years, The Breath Of Infinity. The source material for these new variations is once again drawn from this LP, reaching across continents and musical communities to present further reflections on the Cabaret Du Ciel sound through a spectrum of perspectives and approaches.

First up, Benedek approaches ‘Great Plains’ as a low-tempo space-boogie excursion. Following in the wake of his releases on Leaving Records, L.I.E.S. and People’s Potential Unlimited, the LA-based artist lays down thick slabs of Moog while retaining the ethereal swirl of the source material.

Rome’s L.U.C.A. (aka Francesco De Bellis) has established his new wave-inspired sound on his own Edizioni Mondo label, not to mention working in other projects such as MAT101 and Jollymusic, and he brings a sprightly, motorik energy to ‘Climatic Variation’.

Lorenzo Fortino’s ‘Suspacid Revisitation’ version of ‘Lakota’ is aqueous and psychedelic, but remains elegant and understated in its execution. The emergent producer has already released on Wo-Land and most recently Miniera, and this remix ably embodies the entrancing qualities inherent in his sound.

The remix package concludes with a playful, leftfield electro diversion from elusive Montreal-based producers Sentena. Hailing from an emergent scene orbiting the Doo label and projects like SnP 500 and Fashion, their crooked take on machine music perfectly meets the adventurous aims of Altrimenti in testing out crossovers of styles and creative processes.

The results across all four of these versions are distinct from each other, and distinct from wider trends in dance music. In the dualistic spirit of musicality and experimentation which tracks back to Cabaret Du Ciel’s own approach, we’re presented with music brimming with personality and individuality that once again celebrate the ‘possible alternative’ Altrimenti have set out as their area of interest.

Returning to the Ransom Note Records offshoot, Insult To Injury boss Timothy Clerkin presents four prime cuts of rave meatiness for our ravenous consumption. Showing off his chops, Timothy’s distinctive Acid sound collides head on with Jungle and Breakbeat elements, put through the mincer to form an EP of epic dance floor destroyers. 

Dreaming explodes out of the gate first, clattering in with a big, wobbly bass line before dropping into a rapturous rave anthem! Perfect for the late summer festivals. Tour de Trance takes the tempo down a notch, whilst revving up the Hands-In-The-Air-O-Meter! Big, analogue synths build throughout, sweeping us up and taking us to a place of pure ecstasy by the end.

Jangala continues this blissfulness, transporting us to a synthesized rainforest, where birds call and string sections play in perfect harmony. This paradise is fleeting though, as the carpet is ripped out from under our feet and we’re slapped around the face by a rave stab so aggressive, it probably has rabies. 

Broken Wing takes us to the close with eastern inspired melodies and drums interacting with an Acid bass and resonant synth stabs to generate a hypnotic state of being. As we approach enlightenment, the sounds build around us to transport us to a higher rave plain.

On the eve of the release of his new album 'Les Délivrés', an extension of his soundtrack illustrating this poignant documentary on the struggle of the Uber Eats or Delivroo drivers, Maxime Dangles unveils ‘Révolte’,  the most dancefloor and hard-hitting track on the album, with a Burialesque progression at the crossroads of IDM and bass music, steeped in melancholy.


Maxime Dangles entered the electronic music scene 15 years ago on the Kompakt label, collecting prestigious remixes (Moby, Green Velvet, Simian Mobile Disco, Kittin & The Hacker...). Reference of the international electronic scene, he’s renowned for his immersive and singular sound design that he shapes with his modular synths. But for the last 4 years, Maxime Dangles has slowed down his club dates to devote himself to this type of creation, to the spatialization of sound, in places such as the SAT in Montreal and to the SONARS arts and sciences project alongside researchers from the CNRS, who took him on board at the heart of their research on the islands of Saint-Pierre and Micquelon.

Nourished by the feelings of the protagonists of the documentary such as struggle, anger, stress, alienation or hope, Maxime Dangles signs here a militant soundtrack that prolongs the struggle of the Délivrés in a poetic way between IDM, electronica and ambient. With 'Révolte', Maxime Dangles continues the fight of Damien, Clément or Yoro with a strong and incisive piece.

'Les Délivrés' LP will be available on vinyl and digital February, 17th on Lifeguards - a new sub-label of Astropolis Records, and Maxime Dangles will premiere his new live show at Astropolis l'Hiver February, 11th alongside Kittin & The Hacker, SPFDJ, Volition Immanent, Infravision or Zohar. His performance will be an AV show accompanied by Dylan Cote from OYE collective, a motion designer he worked with at the prestigious Montreal SAT.

The vinyl will be distributed by Bigwax and all profits will be donated to Utopia 56, a humanitarian association that helps exiled people and anyone in distress in France. Since 2015, the association has been present in Calais to provide emergency material aid and denounce human rights violations and police violence, and through numerous actions throughout France. The association provides emergency aid on the ground for vulnerable people, particularly unaccompanied minors, through outreach activities, distribution of food and shelter.

Following on from his recent release of '1994', Hi, I'm Jack continues to combine groove inducing beats with euphoric sounds. Beginning with low register glitchy synth stabs, the @posthuman reinterpretation of @sofa-talk's 'Elastic' builds a richly textured soundscape. With clips of running water, white noise manipulation, elongated reverse cymbals and one-shot vocal jabs, a solid kick and the introduction of crashing toms at the 2:30 mark alongside lend proceedings a rolling tech flavour. A remix of two halves, the latter stages witness the introduction of a mellow 303 acid lick that defines the rest of the track, providing the motif for the rest of the elements to coalesce around.  Muted in tone at first, Posthuman roll the resonance of the acid phrase up and down, the 303 becoming increasingly acrid as we progress.

Honey Badger Records, a Korean underground electronic music label, is releasing their third compilation album 'HBRTRX Vol.3' on March 9th (Monday) 2020.
Honey badger records is an independent music label based in Seoul
electronic underground scene, released it's first EP 'Overly Vivid' by
producer / founder JNS in April 2014. And ever since, they’ve been releasing 16 albums that connect the city with contemporary global electronic dance music culture. Their broad and variety of musical approach expanded the culture scope and showed new paths for electronic music.
The artists of Honey Badger Records are JNS, Sojeso, Two Tone Shape, Mignon, and Closet Yi, Each of them gives a distinctive sound that is ahead of the time through their album. Their original tracks released at the label have already been introduced many times in local clubs and also on media such as BBC Radio 1, NTS Radio, Rinse FM, Worldwide FM in the UK and Red Light Radio in the Netherlands.
The HBRTRX compilation, released every year at the label, is a series
album consisting of 120-130 bpm house and techno music that is more dance floor focused track among a variety of electronic music genres. Special guest producers Acidwork, Go Dam, KONA, Liu Lee and Yetsuby participated as well who haven’t released any track from any label. They’ve been actively interacting with label artists and it’ll be interesting to check their chemistry with Honey Badger Records.
Honey Badger Records started with a label compilation album in 2020, and will release the new musician Closet Yi's label debut album and another EP, which Mignon and Sojeso are working on. They will also continue to showcase new songs and selections by Honey Badger Records label artists at various events and parties.
