Where We Come From is the debut album from Jamaican superstar Popcaan. Executive produced by Dre Skull and featuring productions from Dre Skull, Dubbel Dutch, Jamie Roberts, Anju Blaxx and Adde Instrumentals, Popcaan's first full length offering sees his signature melodies and uplifting tones on thirteen original tracks. As musicologist Wayne Marshall writes,

“Where We Come From” gives voice, as the best reggae does, to the contradictions of life in a society rife with inequities and yet so rich. Whether odes to the ghetto or the good life, Popcaan's lyrics bring realist portraits and utopian visions into dynamic tension. After blasting onto the scene in 2010 on the biggest dancehall tune of the year, “Clarks,” Portmore's Popcaan has since proved himself as one of the most talented up-and-coming vocalists in the genre. Coming up as Vybz Kartel's protégé, this year the 23 year old has lent his distinctive voice to an arsenal of bashment hits, from ghetto laments to party smashers. Most recently, this past fall Popcaan was the first dancehall artist since Sean Paul to have his track playlisted on the BBC and big things are set to follow for the “Raving King.”  
 
2012 sees Popskull team up with Dre Skull for a series of Mixpak releases, the first being the single “Get Gyal Easy.” Dre Skull's shaking bass crescendos and minor key string stabs provide the backbone for an emotional gallis anthem, a slow-burning and euphoric bashment tune that showcases Popcaan's versatile singjay style.  BBC 1xtra has tapped the single to feature in their Hot 20 of 2012 special airing on January 1st and will follow by keeping the track on their playlist – a strong start for 2012. 
 
This is Mixpak keeping its bond with Jamaica as tight as ever.
