Where We Come From is the debut album from Jamaican superstar Popcaan. Executive produced by Dre Skull and featuring productions from Dre Skull, Dubbel Dutch, Jamie Roberts, Anju Blaxx and Adde Instrumentals, Popcaan's first full length offering sees his signature melodies and uplifting tones on thirteen original tracks. Just three years after Popcaan first stepped out in his Clarks as Vybz Kartel's protégé, he has quickly established himself as one of Jamaica's biggest artists. His distinctive voice, versatile style and positive energy has propelled him through summer smashes “Ravin” and “Party Shot,” pensive political tracks “The System” and “Dream,” and gallis anthems like “Only Man She Want.” Along the way, he's piled up tens of millions of YouTube plays, a Billboard Hot 100 hit and high profile collaborations with Snoop, Pusha T, and Busta Rhymes.

His much anticipated debut album will be dropping on Mixpak in the first quarter of 2014, and we're proud to release “Everything Nice” as the first single from the record. Popcaan lays his trademark catchy melodies and controlled flow over a minimal riddim produced by Dubbel Dutch that lies somewhere between dancehall and hip hop. Delivering a reflective and casually nostalgic track on the balance of working hard and holding a meds, the song is dedicated to his fans and their struggles. As Poppy whiles his worries away, the track eventually melts with the vocal, leaving a bittersweet blissfulness.

“Everything Nice” sets the tone for the LP, in name and nature. This is the first of a new palette of sounds and songs that carry Popcaan’s next chapter.

Produced by Dre Skull (who also serves as the album’s executive producer), "Love Yuh Bad" pairs Popcaan's signature melodiousness and catchy rhythmic flow with skipping percussion and driving strings. It wouldn't be a Popcaan album without a wining song and "Love Yuh Bad" fully delivers the goods.

Nearly a year after producing Vybz Kartel’s “Kingston Story” and fresh from delivering Popcaan’s “Get Gyal Easy,” Dre Skull returns with a brand new riddim, featuring four original vocals from some of the biggest Caribbean artists. 

The Loudspeaker Riddim, which is not just a name but also a serving suggestion, is a powerful and emotive track, with lingering echoes that 
build and fold over each other until the dancehall bassline kicks in and a minimal synth-stab leaves the track wide open for the vocalist to shine. King of the Dancehall, Beenie Man, sets the riddim alight with his fast- flowing ode to the female form on “Hot Like Fire,” while Mixpak family member Natalie Storm delivers a classic braggadocios take on “Rock The Runway.” Normally found voicing the upper echelons of bpm, Soca Monarch Machel Montano makes a rare appearance on a dancehall riddim, keeping his energy intact for an expressive tune dedicated to winery – “Go Down.” Popcaan rounds off the release with 'The System', an epic, conscious track that sees the young deejay describe the trials and struggles of ghetto youth in the face of the system. 

The Loudspeaker Riddim is not only a testament to the versatility of the artists featured, but to dancehall itself, a proud addition to the ever-growing Mixpak dancehall catalogue.
