The impulse to write this song came from the emotional aftermath of the Charleston Church shooting. Although I live in NYC, my heart felt a deep pain for the victims and families. I spent time looking at other moments in American history where churches / synagogues / mosques were targets of either violence or arson and it hit me hard. 

The melody and lyrics for the chorus rose up from the turmoil of those events and my heartbreak for the victims and families. The chorus is sung powerfully by NYC based R&B singer, Leila Hegazy. The rap is all RedBaren907. I wanted to collaborate with him on this song because I knew he would provide the perfect commentary on the struggle of religion / spirituality in the modern world.
