Continuing the Most Violent Year Album project, NC-17 returns with the second instalment of this epic trilogy of long players.

Each part of this album series was written during a year in which the global pandemic took hold, intense political disruption created unstable futures and media outlets across the world became further polarised and outraged, creating vast swathes of angered and confused people, unsure of who to trust. This second edition encapsulates that paranoid, tense, terror - moving on from the looming dread of the unknown that formed the basis of Part 1.

Beginning each part of the album with an entirely new batch of tunes, Part 2 represents 13 of the best cuts from over 50 tracks written just for this chapter of this epic trilogy. By beginning with a fresh palette and creating entirely new music for each section NC-17 was able to keep each part distinct, and the music contained within this speaks exactly to the feelings he experienced during the project.

Alongside 8 incredible solo productions are collaborations with some of the dnb scene’s most notable talents, 5 exceptional tracks featuring Kolectiv & OB1, Myth, Philth, Dr. Apollo and Logam.

Representing the continued development of the NC-17 sound this album includes some of his best work to date, we’re proud to present ‘Most Violent Year Album – Part 2’.

Wingz delivers with a Drum and Bass take on Ruckus, Ominous and Gear’s halftime banger, Sleight of Hand. The track builds through a dystopian valley into full on neuro war. 

With Enigma and High Demand having already collaborated with Ruckus, Gear & Ominous, the pathway to remix this half-time banger was already well underway creating a melodic, smooth rolling vibe.

Ruckus X Gear X Ominous - Hustle (Dub)

Combine Footwork, Grime and Progressive Electronic and then circle these elements back to Drum & Bass, that’s how you land on to the intricate and unconventional world of Lakeway’s music. There’s something inspirational about Lakeway’s refusal to accept the notion of style boundaries. Over the years, he has been one of the champions of innovating Bass music in the UK - with releases on some of the biggest labels in the game.

As Lakeway enters Version 2.0 of his musical career, we are honoured to help bring his newest release, the “No Escape” EP, to the world.

A combination of three heavyweight club tracks based around the 170bpm axis and a slower introspective grime collaboration with PAV4N, the EP follows no musical directive and is remarkably unique.

‘Lighter,’ ‘Unrequited Dub,’ and ‘All Massive All Crew” are all peak-time medicine - unapologetic big-room bangers with an experimental edge. On ‘No Escape,’ Lakeway teams up with Foreign Beggar’s front man PAV4N, to record an altogether different piece of work. Artfully combining elements of both ethereal melancholy and invasive industrial grime, together they explore one of the many sonic hairline fractures that exist between traditional musical tropes.

This album is the third in my Sailor series. Damn. It's been almost 10 years since I've started this journey. That's crazy. It's been a blur. I'm trying to be more present and be grateful for all the music I've made and the people it has connected me to. When Sony gave me a copyright strike which subsequently led to Spotify deplatforming the entirety of my 'Venus - EP' I've gotta admit it stung a little. It felt like they were trying to erase a part of my musical journey and by extension- me. But I'm trying not to be attached. Let the universe's will be done. I'm grateful for all of the opportunities it afforded me. I've only ever wanted my music to be there for someone going through hard times, joyful times, and everything in between. And I hope anyone who listens to it can appreciate the respect I approach sampling and how much I look up to all of the artists like Joe Hisaishi who inspire me daily. I'm also grateful it's still up (mostly) on Bandcamp and Soundcloud and I trust the universe will deliver it to the people who need it- one way or another. [cont'd in letter]
