Musiques Electroniques Actuelles presents U.S.O.C.A., side project of Jānis Sils launched some years after Bedre (Riga based minimal synth, punk act) stopped. This 6 tracks EP (to be released: June, 15th) includes compositions from 1991 to 1994, recorded in Chicago after Janis Sils emigrated from Riga, Latvia. Made with mostly self built instruments, here's an trash and solid industrial sound. Influenced by label Wax Trax! & bands like Laibach, Nine Inch Nails, Front 242, Lassigue Bendthaus... The world of U.S.O.C.A. reflects a strong talk to military minds. Something straight with no breathe. A uniting calling for masses.

"U.S.O.C.A. is an abbreviation of Urinating Statue Of Castrated Angel.
The name was adopted in early 90’s by the band members Jānis and Anna Sils in Chicago for an industrial EBM music project. Jānis Sils emigrated from Soviet  Latvia in 1989 and brought a vast underground electro punk music experience with him from his past musical project Bedre. Anna Sils at the time was a graduate of Georgetown University and a Law student in Chicago. Jānis was a fashion design student at the Art Institute of Chicago. Anna’s talent of English language writing mixed with Jānis’ creativity in sound design, midi programming and analog recording allowed them to produce these dark sounding tracks. All of the material was recorded at a home built studio using Yamaha RX5 rhythm programmer wired through midi to Roland S10 sampler that recorded samples onto Smith Corona type writer magnetic memory discs. The samples often were created from scratch and programming of songs was manually done by Jānis in a very primitive and time consuming way of the time. They stretched the capacity of the available equipment to the maximum and filtered the individual pads, samples and vocals through various effects processors and guitar distortion pedals. Digital pitch shifting was often used to modify vocals and drum machine beats.
The lyrics were written and edited by both Anna and Jānis in Latvian as well as in English languages often covering both Latvian, American or British popular songs with a sick sarcastic twist.
Later in their lives after separation Jānis landed his career in NYC as one of the heads of clothing design for several major American fashion brands and Anna works an attorney for a Swiss bank in Hong Kong. Both have successful careers and families with young children."

’Vi’ is an ambient track allmost solely produced with my Alpha Juno 1 and also an unofficial homage to one of my favorite groups, Tangerine Dream (and offcourse my Alpha Juno), especally the sound they had in the 70's and early 80's.

All my favorite melody scales at once, the track took long time to make, atleast 1,5 years I was sitting with it. The point of that was maybe to add some real reflection to the work around why i choose to make certain melodies at different times and events. It's an reflection of the past in my life during the last 10 years. I find it to be best to listen to if you sit down in a chair and really phaze out or lay in bed. It requires the listeners attention and respect.

With this new EP Trinity Sacha Ketterlin reveals his techno background. The music materializes fine sense for hypnotic synth lines and grounding basses, recorded from unique modular system the EP represents the essence of his trademark sound.
The three tracks on this EP originate from one of Sacha Ketterlin's live sets and transport the raw power of techno with its ability to turn any club into a temple of sound.
Trinity is related to the number Three as found in classic Detroit chords, which typically consist of three notes. Ever since these chords were used in electronic music, they represented the underground techno scene. Sacha Ketterlin now gives his own interpretation. A wider range of sounds can be found in the track Temple, which takes you on a meditative techno journey with a few vocal and singing bowl recordings.
Besides the three original tracks, the EP includes a powerful remix by DRVN, adding some breakbeat vibes to the track Desire.

Robert E. Livingood is a multi-media artist, DJ, and producer. His DJ sets span territories of new wave, synth, dark disco, minimal, post-punk, etc. As a producer, he uses hardware synths as a means to dialog with the forces of wild nature. This process results in experimental dance tracks and lo-fi ambient pieces enveloped in smokey atmospheric layers of sound. Robert has released music on Emerald & Doreen, Divination & Strategy, The Black Lodge, Ombra INTL., and Underground Pacific (forthcoming). Originally an arts promotor in Detroit’s radical underground, Robert now resides in the mountains of western Canada where he studies grizzly bears, works with the homeless, and organizes multi-media events in the thriving arts community of Nelson, British Columbia.

“Rhythmic Telepathy is a mix directly influenced by these times. It was recorded live, by hand, using old turntables and out of date CDJs. You will hear traces of ambient, acid, lo-fi, new wave, EBM, dark disco, and experimental, but the genres aren’t nearly as important as the underlying emotions that inspired this selection-feelings of isolation, loneliness, and a good deal of skepticism toward the ideas we adopt as reality. You will also notice I don’t always seamlessly mix, and I play with volume-raising and lowering accordingly. This is intentional-a reflection of my feelings moving through this new reality we are in. Also, I wanted to give some space for integration between certain tracks in order to bring the listener out of their trance and have a look around them”.

With his own unique treatment of sleazy, minimal electro and acid beats, MKDSL (stands for ‘Mom Says I’m Pretty’ in Serbian) has been uplifting the local clubbing auditorium since the early 2000s.

Equally influenced by Aphex Twin and Laurie Anderson, as well as 90s Dutch masters such as I-F and Legowelt, MKDSL is one of the most interesting producers and DJs in Belgrade today, crossing his humorous, camp personality with a serious devotion to music.

He hosts a Friday evening show with DJ Flip on Belgrade’s radio B92, called Idemo Na Mars, 08-10 pm GMT+1.
