In the 1980's, everybody and their brother had a tape recorder into which they could say just about anything and then sell it as a "self help" tape of some sort or another.  Nowadays everybody and their brother has a recording studio in their computer into which they can record just about anything.  I feel it's only natural these to abnormalities come together in this format.
