The Milwaukee Croatian Tamburitzans exist to perpetuate and promote the music, dance, and culture of the Croatian people, typified by use of the tamburitza (“tamburica”), the national folk instrument of our Croatian heritage. The organization, founded in 1985, is dedicated solely to bringing this experience to our youth. 

We are very proud and dedicated to our Croatian heritage and our children. We are committed to bring the best of our culture through song and dance to our community. Music, costumes, fun-filled trips and many friendships are all the things we share. All of these benefits are accomplished by volunteers working together at our events.
 
The age range in our group is from 3rd grade to 21 years old. No prior musical experience is necessary to join. We practice on Sunday nights at St. Augustine Croatian Catholic Church on 67th & Rogers in West Allis.
 
Each year, we participate in activities like:
 
• Ethnic Croatian socials with a local or regional tambura group from the United States
 • Concert/dance in the Summer with a genuine tamburica group from Croatia
 • Concert with our own members in the Spring
 • 3-day National Junior festival with 34 other groups from the U.S. and Canada. It rotates to a different city each July. In the recent past, the Festival has been held in Chicago, Cincinnati, Toronto, Milwaukee, Walt Disney World (Orlando, FL), and Disneyland (Anaheim, CA)
 • Picnics and performances throughout the year
 
The highlight of the recent past was in 2011, when we traveled to Croatia, the ancestral homeland of many of our members. There, we participated in a 2-week musical and cultural tour of the country, the experience of a lifetime!
