MCDE VS. DPC - MOTOR CITY DRUM ENSEMBLE (RAW CUTS, DE) VS. DRUMPOET COMMUNITY

Danilo Plessow ist erst Mitte 20 und hat sich bereits in den Geschichtsbüchern der elektronischen Musik einen Platz verdient. Bereits als Teenager startete er mit Inverse Cinematics seine Odyssey, dann folgten seine MCDE 12"es auf Raw Cutz und katapultierten den von Jazz und Soul beeinflussten jungen Mann in das Bewusstsein einer ganzen Generation. Es folgten Remixe für Acts wie Caribou, Zero 7 u.v.m., sowie die prestigeträchtige DJ-Kicks und Motor City Drum Ensemble wurde zum Inbegriff von Qualität. Dies wohlgemerkt in einer Szene, die Moodymann, Theo Parrish und Larry Heard verehrt, sich aber immer noch schwer damit anfreunden kann, dass von Soul- und Funk strotzende Musik mit MPC dominierten Beats, nicht zwingender Weise von einem Afro-Amerikaner kommt. Motor City Drum Ensemble spielte bewusst mit diesen Klischees, hielt sich lange Zeit verdeckt und als klar wurde, dass ein junger Mann aus Stuttgart hinter den imposanten Veröffentlichungen steht, war die Überraschung gelungen. Vielleicht hat Danilo geholfen, die Akzeptanz für Blackmusic Lovers ausserhalb Amerikas, zu steigern. Wir freuen uns sehr ihn wieder bei uns begrüssen zu dürfen, sein letztes Marathon Back-to-Back Set bei uns mit Alex Dallas sprengte die Erwartungen und lässt auf einen erneut grossartigen Abend hoffen. Mit dabei auch Alex' Drumpoet Partner Ron Shiller, auf deren Label Danilo als Jayson Brothers den Underground Hit "The Game" veröffentlichte.

Our second vinyl release features four tracks from our own Icelandic Moff & Tarkin (https://soundcloud.com/magnusfelix). Big Mango Bangers gives us a good taste of the fresh style that the Vienna based producer has to offer. The A side has two great danceable house tracks, 'Naked' and 'I Got This' that should rock any good dancefloor with some superb sample action. The B side really ties up the record and features 'Mutual Distraction' a house track with an 80’s vibe and 'Skutla' a synthony which could really break up and reset the mood as a DJ tool. Each track has a place and the record is a great example of the diversity we try to encourage.

@housesinmotion is a Melbourne-based record label that has been releasing 100% locally sourced music for the past year. Starting off as a digital label they decided to take the leap of faith and tackle their first vinyl pressing. Initially hoping to press only a small batch of local copies, their expectations were exceeded as it turns out the good guys at Lobster Distribution are making it available internationally.

On the flip side, co-label head Oliver Francis takes the reins and delivers two slightly different cuts. Our premiere, “How High” starts off with a shuffling shaker and ride rhythm complemented by a conga drum pattern. Warm albeit mildly melancholic chords provide some contrast while a crunchy, rumbling bassline fills out the groove. Some atmospheric synth work comes in alongside the chords and helps create a sense of progression to the tune which breaks down before climaxing with an excellent breezy flute line. Just try to keep yourself from moving to this one.

On this latest must-have missive, the Editorial crew has assembled an all-star cast of re-editors and house-loving disco rework merchants. Thrillingly, it contains a now rare outing from slo-mo specialist Duff Disco, whose atmospheric, beatdown style chugger "Always on My Mind" is undoubtedly one of the best things he's released in years. Props, too, to Irish disco-house specialists Get Down Edits, who weigh in with the warm and summery grooves of "Hey (What's Happening)". Elsewhere, Buzz Compass subtly beefs up and filters out a sleazy disco favourite on the constantly rising "U Deserve It", while Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee get the party started in their inimitable style via a touch of disco/hip-hop fusion ("Moonlite").

At the end of the European summer season, a living-room session prepared by the German duo Kahl & Kæmena(@kahl-kaemena) comes to us. They work together as a team since meeting in February 2015, while Kahl is responsible for the selection Kæmena adds her improvisations with her piano edits what is really exciting. Every time Kæmena is playing different which means their sets are never the same, even if they would again play the same songs.

This 97th edition is a one cut live-improvisation-session 97min based on the experiences of the summer festivals they played between June and August early this year. It's pretty much a pleasing delicate flavour compilation that aims to bring livingness from this festival summer tour together so we are sure you will not find anything similar out there.
