A demonstration recording of an early 20th Century unmarked German 5-key flute. The music performed are 5 tunes from the Hiberian Muse, published sometime between 1770-1790. Although this music is not what would have been played on this flute when it was made, I though it worked rather well and I enjoy these pieces:

Anon German 5-key Flute

Demonstration of a Silver Boehm flute by Djalma Julliot, Paris, 1901. This is the Borne model which Taffenel helped to design and he claimed this was the best flute available at the time. It really is a stunning instruments. I play a number of short pieces of various types:

Martin Freres 4-key flute

The Andante (first) movement of the Bach B-minor Sonata for flute and obbligato harpsichord. BWV 1030
This is something I just resurrected from an old cassette. The sound quality is not great as the cassette is quite old. Recorded in the late 70s, live in concert in Fairchild Chapel, Oberlin. This is a very beautiful flute, one I still have in my collection.

Bach B-minor Flute Sonata, first mvt. BWV 1030

A quick demonstration of a Berthold & Sohne nach Meyer type 11-key flute. These are a couple of Irish baroque tunes from the Hibernian Muse to demonstrate the lower range of this flute. I recently discovered that this flute plays much better on a different head joint that the one it came with. This is a randomly selected head from an anon nach Meyer. I have also used on the most simple fingerings - no keys except the D# key. Notes like F# and F-nat are certainly better in tune with the keys but I wanted to show how usable it is without any extra help.

Important note: The flute is adjusted for A=415 and I made no adjustments to the cork or foot for the other joints. This is to present a worst case scenario. Especially the 435 and 440 joint would probably be improved by adjusting the cork. I think it actually plays quite well without adjustment.
