When German techno producers Moritz Von Oswald and Mark Ernestus joined forces to establish the duo Basic Channel in the early 1990s, they birthed this new subgenre. Oswald and Ernestus first released dub techno music under their label, Chain Reaction. Since Chain Reaction still created other genres of music besides this deep "dubby" style, the two subsequently came up with the idea for Rhythm & Sound, a label that would only release dub techno and dub reggae.

When Rhythm & Sound performed their interpretations of the Jamaican sound system culture - the sacred source from which original dub sprang - they drew inspiration directly from the genre's foundations. The music created by this label tried to capture the psychedelic, hazy, stoned sensations of traditional Rastafarian music from Jamaica's heartland. 

Dub techno originated in Europe and eventually reached the United States when Rod Modell launched his DeepChord project in Michigan. DeepChord is an American take on this strange, sci-fi-sounding style. 

Josh Baines (A Bullshitter's Guide to Dub Techno) compared dub techno to ambient music in that music of both genres acts as "background music" on purpose; it never tries to adventure into new and unique territory because its only purpose is to be "placid, unquestioning" and "deeply soothing."

London producer AJ Moreno follows up the success of his previous release Put ‘Em High with an instant classic: a house cover of the Mary J Blige classic Real Love with vocals from former NME emerging artist of the year Effie, that looks set to be a career-defining moment

AJ Moreno has been on dance music fans’ radars ever since he was hand-picked by Radio 1’s Danny Howard to open the BBC Introducing stage at Creamfields. Since then he’s headlined Be Street Festival in Paris and produced official remixes for Wiley, Will Young and Sam Lavery, while his up-front house banger No Trust peaked at #1, #8 and #17 on three Beatport charts and was featured on Radio 1, Kiss 100 and Rinse FM. 

His last release on Humble Angel Dance – Put ‘Em High, released earlier this year – has clocked up over a million streams on Spotify alone. The follow up however looks set to hit even bigger numbers, and may well prove be a career-defining record for AJ. 

Preserving the upbeat, positive vibes of the original, AJ transforms Real Love from a sultry R&B classic to a soaring radio-friendly house anthem, with its warm, punchy bassline, crisp percussion and triumphant keys combining to incredible effect, alongside a stand-out vocal from Effie. 

Having picked up support from notable magazines Clash and Notion as well as being championed by MistaJam and DJ Target, Effie has now clocked up more than 1 million plays on Spotify, lending her vocals to Just Kiddin’s ‘Body Talk’ as well as writing and performing ‘3 Words’ with FooR. 

London based DJ/Producer AJ Moreno has been spinning records since the age of 13 when his uncle handed down his old Technics 1200s. Close family friend Carl Cox DJd at his parent’s wedding and has been a strong influence on AJ ever since. 

Over the years AJ has shared the stage with artists including Dizzy Wright, KOAN Sound, Shift K3Y, Yasmin, Prospa and DJ Colin Francis.
