Alexis Le-Tan is one of the most consistent record collectors come DJ slash compiler and editor supreme of the Parisian underground.
Solo, he has delivered much sought after oddball versions under the guises of ALT or Alexis Le-Fan (Bahnsteig 23, Crowdspacer, Les Edits du Golem, Future Times, Black Disco, etc.) and is the purveyor of envelope pushing mixes for the likes of lovefingers.org, Noise In My Head, Test Pressing amongst many others …. A father of two Alexis' appetite for music is insatiable and he still playlists 30 new releases every months on Juno.co.uk.
Master of the bent, incanter of the psyched-out, purveyor of the leftfield as, anyone who knows him will tell you, there is something slightly off with Alexis. A readiness to unsettle, solidly camped behind tainted glasses and a belligerent smile the kind only the violently caustic can muster.
Such saltiness, however, did not prevent him from undertaking influential music collaborations, first as a co-selector of obscure cosmic and library music, Space Oddities which he picked in conjunction with Jess, of Jess & Crabbe fame. But also as concept band, Full Circle besides Crowdspacer founder Joakim. Alexis is also praised for his exciting back to back Dj sets among which his collabs with french disco apostle Vidal Benjamin, Vladimir Ivkovic or Misha Hollenbach and 2ManyDJ’s are amongst the most resounding.

From the halcyon days of Goa parties and the UK’s rave scene to the noughties’ specific blend of electro, disco and techno, it took twenty formative years for Alexis to fully establish his ever so distinctive signature sound: a mixture of all things slow and mental always with a touch of trance in a very cosmic ascension to uncompromising originality.
It sounds more complicated than it is and his monthly radio show on LYL (http://lyl.live/show/the-other-side/) will give you a good grasp of the cottonous splendor Alexis’ style has come to.

Truth is, we’ve been dying to share this one. PSY X records' @buttechno aka Pavel Milyakov takes on the brand new Dekmantel Podcast. Buttechno's ability to manipulate sound and massage rhythm into new forms is laid bare in this week's mix. It starts off as deep and atmospheric - swampy dub, sub-aquatic bass, funky static electricity - and then slowly morphs into more fulsome body music. It's never less than a warm, elastic take on techno that is stripped back but packed with an inviting and playful charm.

Thank you for inviting me, the mix was recorded at my home in Bangkok last December and the concept was to create a mix of beatless records that carry polyrhythmic energy and colorful vibrations.

Copenhagen local dj, Jinsu (@jinsunij) for the newest Animix. I met Jinsu last year in Copenhagen when we played the same night at Den Anden Side, a @f_e_l_t night hosted by our mutual friend @perkopair. 

After meeting (and being told by mutual friend's about his skills), I dug into Jinsu's beautifully diverse taste & impeccably on-point dj'ing skills. An avid collector with a broad yet perfectly aligned taste for the Animix series - I'm super happy to share this one with everyone, filled with eclectic groove, depth and flow - in perfect Animalia fashion :)

Jane Fitz, one of rural regulars and a staple of its history, took the stage for two B2B sets on both stages this year.

Jane's choice to share a booth with AKIRAM EN, also a regular at rural, on the first day of the event brought together a large crowd of music lovers for a rare B2B experience that lasted four hours of deep groove sessions from late into the night until dawn. Enjoy this obscure mix set, that the two skilled selectors who have been described as “DJ's  DJ” have produced.

Deep in the heart of Rotterdam’s concrete jungle you’ll catch Mowgli swinging through a crate of minimal wave, proto EBM, unknown boogie and the noisier edges of Chicago house and early techno.
With a persistent lean towards the darker and the grittier, Mowgli’s known for his leftfield selections that are stripped right back to the bare necessities. Heavy duty drum machine workouts and raw analogue synths are always on the menu, and this head chef is cooking up a storm whenever he steps behind the deck.

With an early fascination for bands like Parliament Funkadelic, Kleeer and Midnight Star, he’s always had a feel for the grooves that make you move. Formative experiences in Rotterdam’s underground club scene led the funk and soul boy down a path towards distorted electronix, and from those smoke-filled basements he’s never looked back.

Finding his feet among the freaks at early morning dances, his electronic education was synthesiser-driven from the very beginning. High NRG, Italo Disco and the Dutch West Coast Sound were all early influences, and every weekend he’d seek out the sounds at notable venues Bar, Hoboken & Perron.

With a growing flame for digging and DJing he was quickly recruited as a store trooper to work the counter at Pinkman. Here he submerged himself in the strange shades of electronic music’s deeper corners, stocking the aisles with labels like L.I.E.S, Bunker, L.A Club Resource, Stroom, South of North, plus Pinkman, CHARLOIS and Mindri.

Quickly developing a taste for the rougher edges of DIY dance music, he began his long running Operator residency as a platform for all his favourite finds. A regular show diving to the depths of his sound, it’s a must for all those with a soft spot for overdriven distortion and moody melancholia. 

Keeping up regular appearances at spots all over the Netherlands, including PIP, Blijdorp Festival, Poing, BIT, RadioRadio, Skatecafe & Weelde, Mowgli’s sound is taking him further afield with invitations from all four corners of the Netherlands and beyond.
