Funky Space Trip

A 'bump' was a short instrumental hip hop snippet between commercial breaks on 'adult swim', a vintage tv program in the USA. The bumps brought lofi and instrumental hip hop to a broader audience and are nostalgically remembered by fans of the genre.

Drawn to these laidback beats and enjoying Untitled Marauder's tracks I envisaged subtle guitar layers adding to the vibe. With Andre's nod to proceed I shared this version with him and we were both amused and quietly pleased with how the instruments and his sampling met.

This ripe piece of funk started with JJ essentially composing it on the e. Piano, organ, drums, and bass. He had the Eclectic Collective in mind when he did so, though. JJ actually is playing his drum kit on this one, so funkily that we decided to keep his drums in there. That didn't leave a whole lot of room for Ken to get in on it, but he managed to add a really cool ehru part. The ehru is a two stringed asian violin with a distinct high percussive sound. JJ's bass line was so well played and solid, we decided to keep it in there, too, which also left Josh searching for a place in the mix. He decided to go last with the lap slide to anchor the foundation of the blues idiom. But he did that after Stephen and Tez cast their spells on the song with their magical guitars. Tez can be heard with the trippy, delay-heavy staccato lines, and Stephen with the silky smooth crying blues lines throughout.
Of course, every great song needs a great mixer and producer, and we're lucky enough to have Stephen to do the honors on this one for us.
This song represents The Eclectic Collective at our funky finest, and we always enjoy and appreciate when JJ starts a song for us. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed making it.

oublie donc cet abime, le bleu est joie en ces nuits. 

Tu incarnes la voie du Cool et c’est bien plus que parfait.
Attends donc que se déroule ton beau tapis médiocrité.
Même si tes rêves coulent, seule Loose peut se noyer,
ce lourd boulet ne roule plus, qu’à la seule force de tes poignets.

Abandonne ta voie critique, happy people don’t say no !
Laisse ce poison électrique, décaper l’infâme de tes eaux.
Si bien séduis par ce sourire, tu as oublié que ces dents,
Sont les belles armes de nos empires, perçant le coup des innocents.

Si tu uses enfin des tiennes, à l’identique, s’offre le bagne,
mais en riant de bon cœur, la tyrannie, de peur, s’éloigne.
Retrouve Force dans les faiblesses que contourent, si mal, ces borgnes.
La clé peut être acceptation, d’un Toi complet, qu’enfin, je lorgne.

Le Nouvel EP de M'Z - la version "concept en musique" de mes travaux de composition.
C'est une critique du cool social par le cool musical...

Dans cet album je m'exerce à adopter un positionnement musical "cool" et souhaite mettre en perspective les limites de cette 'posture', qu'on s'impose, socialement nous même, plus ou moins volontairement et que les réseaux sociaux favorisent largement. 
Posture qui, semble bien plus nous nuire que nous servir. 
"Cool is Watching You" est aussi un point de rencontre en musique entre Orwell et Huxley qui espère guérir le cool par le cool.

7 morceaux que je définirai plus en détails avec des mots dans les jours à suivre, pour favoriser la transe, en attendant je vous laisse le découvrir en sons avec les seuls gros titres comme pistes.

A place for sound freaks lashing out from the dark. 

So there's all kinds of stuff on this page, but after months of schizophrenic debates about who was playing with who and who took the lead while doing it, finally, the decision was made: all my alter egos got together and decided to form a band. From 2020 on new tracks are created under the moniker Gruppo Infernal. Only pure MMTJ tracks will still be named as such. 

Gruppo Infernal still relies on my work as Me, my Thumb and Jack, an ongoing quest for a liberating approach to sound creation where the human body acts as an oscillator amplifying the natural 50hz hum. Direct live recording, improvisations and delay loops only using analog filters and effects. No editing, no overdubs. Gruppo Infernal adds digital treatment to this original sound material. 

UnterPitch was an alter ego using samples & synths.
Bleached Coffins was a one-off project using guitars.
