Six months after their last installment, Shir Khan and Exploited drop another hot to trot collection of disco edits. As usual, there's much to excite, beginning with the familiar guitar solos, Rhodes keys and dub disco pulse of Antilope's "Singing Ghost" rework. Death On The Balcony keep up the reverb and delay-laden dub disco theme on "Addict For Your Love", whose rubbery groove, twinkling pianos and heady vocals have been expertly rearranged to fit house dancefloors. Finally, Matpat go loop crazy on the thumping disco house cut "Only You" which sits somewhere between Rahaan and Soundstream. Excellent stuff all round.

Sebo K returns to Phil Weeks’ Robsoul Recordings later this week (Friday 28th October) with his ‘Magie Noire’ three-tracker. We’ve got the exclusive premiere of ‘Honeybee’ from it above.

The last 12 months has seen a blossoming relationship between the Berlin based producer and Weeks’ Parisian label. Having started with his impressive ‘Catalyst’ EP at the tail end of 2015, Sebo then delivered more heat at the controls of the Robsoul Edits collection at the turn of the year (see his ‘Player’s Theme’ edit if you missed out).

All three-tracks on ‘Magie Noire’ stand up to the quality of Sebo’s Robsoul output, but we cherry-picked ‘Honeybee’ for its glorious rhythm and disco vocal which are both laid over solid kicks. The resultant cut has funk to spare and has been tearing up the White Isle’s dancefloors ahead of its release this summer.

Fresh from the Outplay crew comes 24 Carrot; a series of edits, weirder bits and ruff house cuts that don’t necessarily  fit the brief for a regular Outplay EP. Fouk and Junktion are first out of the blocks with three no nonsense party jams; each track given it’s own dance floor theme. We spotlight ‘“That’s Pretty Vague”, with it’s swinging, organic drums and infectious rolling bassline it’s reminiscent of that 90’s golden period of New York tough garage, not unlike Mood II Swing in their prime. “Our primal goal as musicians is to make our listeners and audience feel.” This still remains the purpose of Colombian electronic-duo MNKYBSNSS. Mono Urina & Kike Velez blend the energy of rock with the pulsating rhythms of electronic music, creating unique and inspiring compositions that have led them to become one of the most recognized and acclaimed bands in Colombia.

In 2015 they signed a one album and two EP deal with Sony Music Colombia. Their debut album ‘Timeless’ recorded alongside producer Filip Nikolic was very well received by both critics and the band’s rapidly growing fan base, with tracks such as ‘Enumerar’ and ‘Raindrops’ becoming instant favorites. From here on they have performed sold out shows around Colombia, as well as participating in two versions of Estéreo Picnic, the biggest music festival in the country. After releasing their EP ‘Mentiras,’ two tracks were selected for the soundtrack of video game Need For Speed HEAT. 

Currently, Mono and Kike are working from their very own MNKY STUDIOS. Additionally, they created their annual festival, TIMELESS, with the goal of offering a platform for alternative music in their home town Barranquilla, Colombia. With their new projects and their second album lined up, the MNKYBSNSS story is just getting started.
