This is my all time favorite Chris mix, and Ive been listening since the mnml ssgs blog days... Sublime.

4th time here Chris XD track, would you share track ID before this one from Akufen? btw I feel Skidoos was akufen "pinnacle" :)

A recent unplanned show in Bejing was a rare chance for me to share what I call my 'love songs' - beautiful, emotive records, most of which have been with me for a long time. I've only DJ'd this way a few times, and this is the first time I've got the recording. While many of the tracks have beats, I tried playing them in an ambient way, gentle and simple. Music from: Function, NWAQ, Larry Heard, Plastikman, old Kompakt and Dial-related, a few recent selections + more. Thanks to Lyu Zhiqiang (@mohemann) for making it happen. I sincerely appreciate the people who follow and listen to my sets, I am happy to share this with you.

The above quote was kindly provided by Chris SSG for our sixth installment of our podcast series which features a set by him. A good friend of the collective, he needs no further introduction. This podcast is a recording of his set at the final of five parties we threw late last year to celebrate the 10 years anniversary of the Observatory. Chris’s set was the final one in a long series, closing what was a  wonderful sequence of events. Forward indeed.

As we enter the midsummer-solstice season, I wanted to share this recording from a glorious sunny morning last year, now archived on Deep Mind Music ☀️

This is the set I played 8-10AM on Sunday at @comebyefestival in Wales for @umbilicalchords, in their cosy fuchsia~draped ambient dome.

Playing ambient in the early hours of a festival is always really special for me, as everyone’s minds are open and unwound, the gentle caress of nature is all around, and it feels the best backdrop for swirling into imaginal worlds 🌿

Hope you enjoy this wistful meander through tall breezy grasses, golden sunshine, and drifting clouds ~ a mix for daydreaming, nature-wandering, tea-drinking, sunbathing 🧡🌞🌾

Sybil ~ Deep Mind Music Vol.32

An unexpected sequel, exploring the same records and moods as a previous recording in Beijing. This is taken from a recent show for Nurture x Liminal Dreams at The Observatory in Saigon. The plan had been a full spectrum set, but the energy did not feel right. Instead, I decided to play warm and comforting beats, focusing on my musical 'childhood', records from the late 90s - mid 00s. The mixing and presentation is meant to be gentle and relaxing. Enjoy.

We are delighted to begin the year with a mix from ASIP (Ryan Griffin), the founder of A Strangely Isolated Place - a label and mix series that has become a cornerstone for contemporary ambient music. Inviting him felt long overdue, and we couldn’t be happier to share this contribution from someone whose work continually inspires us. For this mix, Ryan delved into musical memories, crafting a journey filled with nostalgia and influences. As he beautifully puts it:

"Thank you, Mareen, for the invite to your series. This mix is full of nostalgia, some Balearic undertones, and classic approaches to ambient electronic music, without an agenda. It starts to speak to some major influences on me over the years. Growing up on 90's electronic music, influential summers in Europe, and the formative years of early 00's IDM and electronica. If Unrush is self-described as 'a serene space within the mind that is free from the encumbering stresses of daily life,' then this is music that always helps me get there."

It is undeniable that we are living in uncertain times. For those of us failing - or refusing - to fit the patriarchal, neoliberalist mould we have lost hope in the future. We can see capitalism is not working but we cannot yet envisage an alternative. We discover that the stability we were instructed to obtain whether it be financial, political or ecological, is fleeting, if at all. The resulting anxiety is an instrument of neoliberalism that prevents many of us from being able to raise consciousness of the structural injustices that alienate us.

In a world where security is no longer feasible, the only constant we can rely on is change. Barad teaches us that the world is a dynamic process of intra-activity and materialisation, an ongoing ebb and flow of agency. The Buddhist Law of Impermanence proves that nothing in this world is eternal. Regardless of ones point of reference we can understand that every aspect of life, physical and mental is in flux and perhaps this transience is the only thing we can depend on.

Each month we invite an artist to ruminate on these ideas and create an hour of relief from these anxieties. A temporary suspension of reality, where the listener can speculate on alternate modes of existence that reject hetero- patriarchal systems of oppression.

This month we have invited @syberkid to respond to this concept.
