Happy Holidays! This is a house mix I recorded 4 years ago while living in Winnipeg briefly for school. I never release house stuff, but I figured hey, what the heck, it's the holidays! Enjoy!

Cut it in half and double it. M&W play a live redux of the lost performance from the Deep Down. the first 5 tracks were originally played live at the dead ringer. M&W replayed them here in order and finished the set with an improvisational mix of eclectic electro and classic beats. Gritty, live and uncut.

Murbank & Wankershim Live at the Flat

It was an honor to be asked to play at the Fire Garden Finale. A venue that has meant so much to so many over the years - from campout events to Sundaze day parties to weddings and so much more. The Fire Garden is extinguished but the flame burns on in our memories.

"Starts off quiet, like the telly on mute while the kettle boils—just a pad and three layers of FX, stacked like damp newspapers in the hallway. Then the bass creeps in around bar 17, doubled with a sub so thick it rattles the radiators. It’s not in a rush, mind you—just lumbers along at 122 BPM like a bloke dragging a bin down a cobbled street.

The break loop’s half-time, proper slow and deliberate, none of that double-time nonsense. It’s like someone trying to dance with a limp. Then around bar 33, filtered synths start whispering through the cracks, like ghosts in a laundrette. They hang about till bar 65, then everything drops back to the pad—like the track’s taken a deep breath and remembered it left the oven on.

A new half-time break rolls in at bar 73, and the bass returns at 89, like an old mate who never knocks. From there it’s just layers shifting and muttering till the end, fading out with FX and that break loop still trudging along like it’s got nowhere better to be.

And the harmony? Don’t get me started. Starts with Cm7, then C#m7, like two neighbours arguing over who left the bins out. Then it shifts into a Ddim7—proper unsettling, like a kettle that whistles in a minor key. It don’t resolve, it just hangs there, like damp washing on a foggy Tuesday. The whole thing’s built on tension and mood, not on happy endings. That’s music for you—sometimes it just stares out the window and sighs."

mochilero hosts inclusive parties, ecstatic dances, and community events on the unceded, ancestral and traditional territories of the Sinixt (Nelson, BC). The events foster an experience of collective joy, while focusing on centring marginalized communities and uplifting organizations that work toward social and environmental justice. His events are intended for dance lovers of any and every background, and are inspired by Fusion, Burning Man, Boom, and the open air culture in Köln, Germany, that led him to fall deep in love with the rich tradition of house music.
