When we were approached with the chance to host an end of year mix by Felix from Hot Chip we were very happy. We feel it is a very suitable way to round up the 2015 calendar which has seen mixes from a vast array of great producers, dj's and heads. Hot Chip remain ever relevant to the world of club music and continue to push an oddball sound which somehow still works as well at a gig as it does in clubs. We caught up with Felix, their electronic mogul, to reflect on the year that was and listen to his selections from 2015.

Following this rollercoaster it’s Kyle Watson feat. Pop Art taking things deeper again, with a subtle groove, delayed effects and mesmerizing vocal breakdown. It’s a brilliant deep house tune, just like this full EP says a lot on all the sounds where dance music is going - Heldeep showing you where it’s at!

After developing respectable solo careers as DJs and producers, long-time friends Willem Claesen and Niels Feytons officially banded together as Way Back. Having racked up releases on Blood Music, Bmkltsch Rcrds & Taub Recordings, they have featured on the likes of Studio Brussel, Rinse FM, Mouv', triple j and Red Bull Elektropedia. Their aim is to reconcile a new school sound with some genuine oldskool heart. Imagine classic vibes from the past - warm house chords, wet synth licks, and jacking drums - laced with a thick but restrained low-end. All of it encased in a shell of pure 21st century production.

A sequence of piano music and a soundscape I composed for #earthday2020 especially for the Mind The Music radioshow on Reform Radio.

Your thoughts can pollute your mind like we pollute the earth. Music can help you heal your mind's pollution.

My fiancé challenged me to work on some new music. The pressure of making something with the purpose to putting it out there has been plaguing me for quite a while. It had put a strain on my relationship with my music.

Perfectionism and procrastination polluted my mind. While making this sequence, emotions went through me like a rollercoaster. I felt a great deal of this pollution vanishing with every step. And I believe getting rid of any kind of pollution starts in the mind.

Earth

Starting off producing electronic music in 2007, Modek has come a long way. Heavily inspired by the hard hitting electro of those days (Ed Banger, BNR, …), he started producing his own music that soon got picked up by fans and DJs across the globe.

Inspired by many different genres and allergic to copycats, Modek is always searching for that fresh beat and loves to push out tracks that merge elements from different genres into that signature sound he has claimed over the years. This sound has attracted the attention of many big names in the scene, resulting in remixes for respected artists. The most recent remixes being the one for Zombie Nation's latest album on Turbo Recordings and his remix for Etienne de Crécy.

In January 2012, Modek released his first EP "Willow/Dust" on Lektroluv Records, which took the electro charts by storm. Since then, 4 more EPs got put out by the highly acclaimed electro label. The latest release being the widely supported "Haunt EP", following up on the huge "Up With Me" package that includes remixes by top guns like Shinichi Osawa, Don Rimini, John Roman and autoKratz.

Today, Modek is getting massive support from Moby, Calvin Harris, Fatboy Slim, Tiga, Porter Robinson, Zombie Nation, Proxy, Digitalism, Felix Cartal, D.I.M., Don Rimini, … and the list goes on and on.
