Kenji - Sinking Sea

@heavenfirst is a Russian producer currently at the very forefront of deconstructed club’s sonic output. Their work straddles the mode’s pairing of hyperkinetic, chameleonic club tracks and spectral ambience. In HEAVENFIRST’s case, few producers more typify deconstructed club’s extreme extratextual liberty. Its particular successes in translating, degrading and wilding any notion of a “continuum” unto the point of manic freshness. Like what if a savant exploited every classic in the library then lit the section on fire. This is what HEAVENFIRST’s music and mixes sound like. Mastery from the hands of an arsonist. The ashes of every page as poem. The contradictory equality of deliberate destruction and conservation.

HEAVENFIRST’s Realist mix becomes a study of where post-club’s omnivorosity exceeds a cyclical referentiality and demonstrates a legitimate generic boundlessness. Drops that sound like skewered brostep for four bars, then engorge miami bass, then another drop comes in seconds and it becomes clear we’re dealing with real alienality - a music so excitingly slippery that our only way of attempting to contain it is admit an insufficient language to describe its uncontainability. This is less a maximalist eschatology of electronics - what happens where pure musical voracity amalgamates everything into virtuosic performance - than an earnest feat of accelerationist creativity. A love-letter to drums and possibility, to momentum and moments where you cannot think for you sense something before language, the sort of dizziness borne from the recognition that what is impossible is actualized in a series of instances of daring. HEAVENFIRST’s mix doesn’t have a crescendo. It feels merely like it stops to take a breath.
